Superhero fans looking for an outing during the upcoming school holidays look no further. The MARVEL’S AVENGERS S.T.A.T.I.O.N. exhibition, running over the next four months at Science Centre Singapore, promises an immersion into the cinematic world of the Avengers, while educating to boot.
Making its debut here after successful runs in New York, Seoul, Paris and Las Vegas, the Singapore edition is being touted as the largest and most interactive yet. The premise of this internationally acclaimed experience is simple – to inspire the spirit of creative exploration and scientific enquiry among the young through the “science behind superheroes”.
Be Part of the Team at the Marvel’s Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N Exhibition
Rather than the regular walk-through experience, visitors are invited to enter as part of the storyline, entering as “recruits” on probationary status for the Avengers’ S.T.A.T.I.O.N. (Scientific Training and Tactical Intelligence Operative Network).
GIVEAWAY: Win Tickets to Magic Mee Goreng, a Puppetry Performance About the Science of Food
Read more stories on: Kayaking in Singapore, Bird Paradise and Singapore Botanic Gardens
Set within the high tech environment of the Avengers’ training facility, visitors explore the historical and scientific origins of favourite characters like Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Vision, Falcon and Ant Man.
Get Ready Recruits!
The experience begins before entering the exhibition.
Recruits are advised to download the AVENGERS S.T.A.T.I.O.N Mobile Training Device application (available for free in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store) on their mobile device.
If you do not have a mobile device, you can rent a pre-loaded device for $5. A photo ID or passport will be required as deposit. The app guides you through your training, delivering your mission brief for each exhibit in the form of directives issued by Maria Hill.
Explore, respond and take selfies with your heroes via the app, which tracks your progress as you make your way through the exhibition.
Meet the Marvel Avengers
Original props, costumes, holograms and interactive activity stations are featured throughout.
At the Captain America Area learn about the physiological enhancements made to the original Avenger, the scientific properties of Cap’s vibranium shield and test your strength and reflexes in the High Performance Test Lab.
Ever wondered why the Incredible Hulk is green? Find out at the Dr Bruce Banner Bio-Lab. Watch Hulk come alive through an interactive live screen display and learn about the brain and the neurological changes he experiences.
Take a peek into the personnel files of Black Widow, Hawkeye, Falcon and Ant Man and inspect the workings of their uniforms and weapons close-up in the respective Personnel Areas.
Enter the Thor Observatory and measure your worthiness against Thor by attempting to lift the legendary Mjölnir. Discover the science behind the Bifrost Bridge. Visit faraway planets in the Marvel solar system on a giant interactive screen using NASA’s latest computer technology.
Test your flight skills in Iron Man’s suit through augmented reality in the Hulkbuster Experience at the Iron Man Advanced Engineering Bay, where his collection of MK 1-7 suites are also on display.
Become an Avenger
In the final stage of training, take on the role of your favourite Avenger to battle the villains in a collaborative interactive game. Mission accomplished, you are now an official part of the Avengers’ combat supportive network. Personalised ID cards, certificates of completion and photos are among the memorabilia available for purchase. Parents, be warned of the extensive merchandising area beyond the exhibition doors!
While undoubtedly entertaining for Avengers fans of any age, text-heavy exhibits and the relatively advanced science underlying the science fiction would probably see children ages eight and up benefit most from the educational aspects of this exhibition.
Budget an hour or two, though an avid fan could easily spend a whole afternoon. You can also catch a Marvel movie at 11 am and 3 pm daily.
