
Everyone can agree that Singapore is hot and sunny. So what do you do when you want to take the kids outdoors for play and still want to beat the heat? Look for a sheltered playground in Singapore, of course.
There can be many reasons to look out for sheltered playgrounds in Singapore. Singaporean mum @Miraculove shared about how she has has been looking for sheltered playgrounds to try to avoid heat triggers for her child’s eczema. Or perhaps, you are looking for all-weather outdoor play, or simply a place that is less hot.
Shaded or Sheltered Playgrounds in Singapore
Inspired by @Miraculove’s call to build a list of sheltered outdoor playgrounds, here is one.

There are different types of sheltered playgrounds:
- Partially sheltered – these playgrounds that have a degree of shade in the form of natural elements such as foliage, or man-made structures such as tarps, sun sails or other structures. It provides some shelter from the sun but does not usually provide protection in the event of rain.
- Completely sheltered – these are outdoor playgrounds that are installed under a canopy that provide protection from both the sun and rain for all-weather play.
Time Park
Found in Pasir Ris, Time Park has a giraffe themed playground that is located under tarps that provide it with shade from the sun. In addition to the main playground structure, there is also jeep that kids can use to pretend that they are out on safari. Find out more about Time Park in Pasir Ris.
Block 464 Pasir Ris Street 41
This small playground, not far from Pasir Ris Atlantis Park, is a well shaded spot with climbing nets and multiple slides that kids can enjoy.
Blk 207 Tampines Street 21
Set under the cover of a large tarp, the children’s playground in front of Block 207 Tampines Street 21 is a small play spot that is suitable for younger kids. There is a low platform for kids to explore and low, bright orange slides. The playground is completely sheltered by the overhead tarp, providing shelter from the sun. However, we are not absolutely sure how waterproof the shade sails will be in the event of heavy rain.
Blk 271 Tampines Street 21
Located between Blocks 271 and 267 Tampines Street 21, this children’s playground benefits from natural shade, thanks to the mature trees surrounding it. The neighbourhood playground consists of a low playstructure with slides and play panels. It can be found just beside a fully sheltered play court.
Blk 842 Tampines Street 82
The sheltered playground a Block 842 Tampines Street 82 is perfect for all-weather play. Housed under a shelter, the playground consists of multiple sections that even older kids can enjoy. There are multiple slides as well as climbing obstacles that can challenge kids.
Woodleigh Village Playground
Found between Woodleigh Village Hawker Centre and Woodleigh Mall, the first of the Woodleigh Village playgrounds is a long play structure that curls around some old mature trees that provide some natural shade from the elements. Find out more about the Woodleigh Village playground.
Woodleigh Hillside Treehouse Playground
Found at Blocks 214B and 215B of Woodleigh Hillside, this treehouse themed playground enjoy shade courtesy of the surrounding HDB blocks. It is fun nature-themed playground which even has a slide that looks like a tree trunk. Find out more about the Woodleigh Hillside Treehouse Playground.
Yew Tee Oil Drum Playground
The Oil Drum playground along the Yew Tee Lifestyle Corridor is a bright orange playground is inspired by Yew Tee’s past. Partially shaded by the overhead MRT tracks, the barrel shaped structures where netted ropes providing climbing aids on the inside. Limbang Shopping Centre
Located on the second floor of Limbang Shopping Centre, the playground enjoy fresh air but it is also located under a shelter that makes it suitable for play no matter what the weather is – rain or shine.
Punggol Green Playground
Designed for older children, the Punggol Green Playground is located under the MRT tracks just beside Waterway Point. A green climbing pyramid with a slide provides an element of challenge for kids along with an orange-coloured low obstacle course. There is also a snakes and ladders play board close by as well as another play area close to One Punggol.
Tai Hwan Terrace Playground
This shaded playground can be found under mature trees. It is a fun elevated house structure that kids can explore as they ascend the ramps and descend the various slides.
Villa Verde Park
Located under a flyover, the Villa Verde Park playground is a bright and colourful structure that is inspired with train with various carriages lined up in a linear fashion. At the front of the Villa Verde Park playground is a yellow, low and gentle slide. With climbing panels fitted with handholds, the front is where younger children can get up on to shaded playground’s platform. Read more about Villa Verde Park.
Blk 166 Bukit Batok West Avenue 8
Nestled in between Blocks 166 and 164 at Bukit Batok West Avenue 8, this is a decently sized playground that enjoys the shelter of a tarp shade. Kids can enjoy the different slides and also exploring the raised playground platform.
Otter Play at Forest Ramble, Jurong Lake Gardens

The sandy Otter Play area within Forest Ramble at Jurong Lake Gardens has a sheltered section, thanks to a set of triangular shade sails. Kids can play amongst the wooden logs and elements at this outdoor play area. Find out more about Forest Ramble at Jurong Lake Gardens.
Blk 115 Clementi Street 13, Sunset Way Residences
This aeroplane playground sits under the shade of mature trees. Great for airplane adventures even when the sun is out.
PropNex Family Zone
The PropNex Family Zone at Gardens by the Bay is located next to the Waterfront Plaza at the Active Garden. It has is a gardening-themed play area and a sand play area that is sheltered by shade sails. Find out more about PropNex Family Zone.
Yishun Swings Park
Yishun Swings Park at Block 290 Yishun Street 22 is a sheltered playground for kids (and possibly even adults) that filled with different types of swings. There are various types of swings here, including six bench swings are lined up in a row, allowing kids to kick their feet up in the air together. Find out more about Yishun Swings Park.
Jurong Eco Garden
The wooden playground at Jurong Eco Garden is set under the shade of mature trees just beside the amenities at Central Plaza. You will also be able to find play equipment like a see-saw at this playground area. Seating at the fringe of the sand pit provides a spot for parents and care-givers to watch over the kids. The Green Oval
The Green Oval in Pasir Ris is a large neighbourhood park (not to be confused with the Oval at Seletar Aerospace Park) . While it is home to several playgrounds, one in particular is located under the natural shade of trees and has a small sun sail at the top of the platform for extra shade. Blk 124 Bedok North Road
A bit old and weathered, this sheltered playground offered a shaded spot for kids to play with low platforms and slides.
Blk 138 Bedok North Street 2
This is a sheltered playground under a tarp which is popular with younger kids. It features low platforms along with multiple slides and play panels for kids.
IMM Garden Plaza
The IMM Playground is great for kids to burn off energy while out at the mall. Located at the large IMM Garden Plaza, the playground setting is perfect for kids to get some fresh air while also exploring the playground’s play equipment. Find out more about the IMM Garden Plaza playground.
Coastal PlayGrove Tower – Vertical Challenge
The centrepiece of Coastal PlayGrove is its soaring play tower. Housed within the centre of the Play Tower is the Vertical Challenge. For older kids, this is one of the best reasons to pay a visit to Coastal PlayGrove. Vertical Challenge is made up of climbing nets which ascend from the base of the building up to the top. Sengkang Riverside Park
The main play structure at the Sengkang Riverside Park playground is a green and yellow structure with slides and platform for kids to play on.
