Children’s Season Singapore 2017 returns this year from 27 May to 25 June 2017. This annual event, which coincides with the June school holidays, is a fun and educational way for children and families to experience the various museums around Singapore.
Here are some of the programme highlights of Children’s Season Singapore 2017 that you can look forward to during the June school holidays 2017. These include both a mix of free and ticketed, walk-in events and those that require registration.
Highlights of Children’s Season Singapore 2017
1. Children’s Season at National Museum of Singapore
Go on a journey back in time at National Museum of Singapore during Children’s Season Singapore 2017. There will be pop-ups of favourite family hangouts from Singapore in the 1970s and 1980s. Kids can “choose” their favourite mode of transport and go on a trail to experience “connections” of friendship, family, monuments and memories. Look forward to interactive exhibits, sensorial stations, hands-on activities, storytelling sessions and more. This is one of the main highlights of Children’s Season Singapore 2017.

2. Ghost Nets of the Ocean – Au Karem ira Lamar Lu
Plunge into an ocean-scape filled with marine creatures made from ocean debris and recycled plastic material. Learn about the dangers of ocean pollution from the experience. Every Friday afternoon in June, pay a visit to Asian Civilisations Museum for FUN-tastic Fridays to make your own special sea creatures and to watch exciting performances.

3. Imaginarium: To the Ends of the Earth
Become an explorer and discover the diversity of experiences found on Earth through the eyes of nine contemporary artists. Pick up a Ranger Kit that will guide you around the different contemporary art works. Read more about Imaginarium: To the Ends of the Earth here.

4. The Active Detective
Visit Health Promotion Board’s Health Zone for The Active Detective Carnival and get tips on how to stay healthy and be physically active.

5. Heritage Hunt @ Indian Heritage Centre – Little Traders
Go on a Heritage Hunt around the Little India Precinct and learn about the different trades found there. Get to meet goldsmiths, textile traders, spice traders, garland makers and tea traders in the neighbourhood around the Indian Heritage Centre. Registration required.

6. Heritage Hunt @ Malay Heritage Centre – Little Reporters
Put your skills of observation and reporting to the test around the Kampong Gelam precinct during the Malay Heritage Centre’s Heritage Hunt. Scoop the latest stories and decide the headlines for your newspaper. Kampong Gelam used to be home to publishing houses like the Al-Ahmadiah Press and Warta Malaya. Find out what it takes to become a publisher. Registration required.

7. Heritage Hunt @ Sun Yat Sun Nanyang Memorial Hall – Little Designers
Explore the Balestier precinct in a heritage hunt. Become a “Little Designer” and discover the meanings behind Chinese motifs such as animals, flowers and fruit. Registration required.

8. RoboFun @ IExperience
Get into the basics of designing, programming and building a robot during Children’s Season Singapore 2017 at IExperience.

9. Let’s Go Old School!: Exploration Trail
During Children’s Season 2107, head over to the MOE Heritage Centre where you can discover what it was like to be a student in the past. Pick up an activity card and collect stamps as you make your way around a trail around the MOE Heritage Centre’s galleries. Complete the trail to pick up a special old-school takeaway.

10. I want to be a Policeman!
Go on a journey of discovery at the Police Heritage Centre. Little ones can dress up as a police officer and take part in police-themed activities and even talk to a real police officer. Registration required.

11. The Confectionary Lab
Learn the science behind candy-making at this ticketed event at KidsSTOP. Find out what goes into candy and sweets, and learn the good and bad of eating candy. Your dentist would approve!

12. Building Stilt House
Find out why houses used to be built off the ground, on stilts at this Architecture Experience Workshop being held during Children’s Season Singapore 2017 at the Singapore City Gallery. You will also be able to use simple materials to try building your own model stilt house too.

13. Papermaking Workshop
Find out what it takes to make your own sheet of handmade paper during Children’s Season 2017 at the Singapore Tyler Print Institute. This workshop includes a guided tour around the Institute’s workshop and its paper mill. It will also cover artworks created by South Korean Artist Kim Beom. This is a ticketed event.

14. When The Police Wore Shorts: A Return to the 1940s
Looking for a reason to visit the Former Ford Factory? Children’s Season Singapore 2017 is a great time to do so. An interactive drama programme for kids between 7 to 12 will be staged at the Former Ford Factory. Kids will role-play as police officers, moving around the exhibition to solve a crime. They will encounter characters from 1940s Singapore who will help them solve the mystery, and share stories of perseverance and sacrifice in the process. Registration required.

15. Night @ ARMS
This one is for the fathers to take the lead on! Go on a field camp and learn skills such as building a basha tent, field cooking and going on a confidence walk. Dad can share his “war stories” too in this two-day “field camp”. Limited to 6 to 10 father-child pairs per session. This is a ticketed event.

16. Learning Chinese Heritage at CHC
Go on a tour around Nanyang Technological University to view the old Nanyang University Library and Gateway Arch, and take part in a competition to see who can paint the best Chinese opera mask. There will also be a fishing game where participants can have fun learning Chinese.

17. Vintage Toys: Materials & Creation
Take part in a ticketed workshop to unearth what toys were made of in the past. Learn about the materials old toymakers used and then make your own polymer clay toy. Ticketed event.

18. Biodiversity Craft
Learn the importance of biodiversity and how you can play a part in protecting the living things found in the natural world. Get creative by making your own biodiversity with materials provided by Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum at this special craft session during Children’s Season 2017. Limited to 15 participants per hour and registration is required.
