Our Experience at Sip Sip’s Little Sip

Our Experience at Sip Sip's Little Sip

Our morning began with a “Little Red Riding Hood” storytelling session. The kids were very absorbed by the animated storytelling, especially when a real live Little Red Riding Hood appeared! It was pretty amazing to see how the large group of children settled down so quickly and were so engaged, enthusiastically answering questions and participating wholeheartedly.

themed craft session

The next activity was a themed craft session, where the kids got to decorate their own cardboard flower crowns with a mix of materials such as dried flowers, paper flowers and colourful foam cut-out shapes.

This was followed by some sensory play time, where a variety of sensory trays and activities were laid out. There was something for everyone, from forest- and nature-themed sensory trays, to the crowd-favourite playdoh with tons of fun animal cutters, to simple embossed colouring fun with nature-themed shapes. The kids had so much fun with this, the toughest part was when it was time to clean up and get ready for food!

We liked that the storytelling and activities all followed a theme, which made for a seamless transition from one activity to the next. The facilitators were also friendly and engaging, lending their high energy and enthusiasm to hype up the kids who warmed up very quickly to them. This leaves the parents to be able to enjoy their meal with peace of mind – such a win!

Of course, the activities also facilitated family bonding and meaningful play. Although good food beckoned, the adults could not resist joining in the fun too, crafting together with our kids and having a go at the sensory activities.

Quality Food for Both Adults and Kids

kids menu was no mere afterthought

With play time over, our appetites were fully whetted for brunch time! We really appreciated how the kids menu was no mere afterthought, as many other cafe menus often are.

The hearty Pomodoro Pasta ($12), creamy and rich Mac & Cheese ($12), and Pancakes with Chantilly Cream & Maple Syrup ($7) were all well-executed, great tasting and very kid-friendly while not skimping on flavour and finesse. On the menu as well is the Oven Baked Salmon with Homemade Mashed Potatoes ($16) and Crispy Chicken & Waffles ($15).

main menu

From the main menu, the dishes we sampled were, without exception, all hits and no misses. Far from your typically pedestrian brunch fare, the dishes managed to be unique, innovative and sophisticated without breaking the bank.

Cured Salmon Blinis ($26)

The Cured Salmon Blinis ($26) was an all-around hit with both young and not-so-young. These days, I usually steer clear of anything smoked salmon on a menu as it tastes just too salty for my middle-aged kidneys, but this house-cured salmon was seriously something else – lightly seasoned and so refreshing, with the delicate mouth feel of salmon sashimi, enhanced by the pickled red onions which provided great textural contrast.

The blinis were an excellent bite-sized vehicle for the umami-rich tobiko and smoked mentaiko mousse, while the adorable sunny side up quail eggs with super creamy yolks were really the icing on the cake.

Iberico Pork Jowl Flatbread ($23)

The Iberico Pork Jowl Flatbread ($23) was another really unique dish that blew us away with its complex flavour profile. The pork jowl was so pleasingly tender and flavourful – think of it as an elevated bacon, smoky and meaty without being overly salty, and contrasted nicely in both texture and flavour by the crisp flatbread, perfectly-poached eggs, creamy garlic labneh and punchy sofrito.

The signature Cast Iron French Toast ($18) delivered a perfect sweet ending to the meal. Creamy butter atop the toast melted into a glorious pool which went well with the salty-sweet flavours from flaky sea salt and maple syrup, while the interior of the thick and crispy French toast was delightfully rich and custardy.
