Weekend Sustainability Fair at Gardens by the Bay Workshops

A highlight of the Weekend Sustainability Fair at Gardens by the Bay is the workshop A Labour of Laksa Love: The Ocean-to-Plate Story of Laksa.

Led by National Geographic Explorer Max Han, the workshop explores how environmental change can threaten cultural and food traditions such as laksa, which uses ikan kembung (Indian mackerel) – a fish vulnerable to climate change.

To round up the workshop, a bowl of laksa will be served to participants.

Repair Discovery Activity

Repair Discovery Activity

There will also be a free Repair Discovery Activity held during the Weekend Sustainability Fair.

To encourage more people to extend the lifecycle of the things they use, a free Repair Discovery activity teaches participants how to repair common electronic appliances.

Through supervised hands-on tasks such as replacing a plug and dismantling and reassembling a table fan, the activity promotes Repair as the 4th R in addition to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

This free activity is suitable for all ages, from children, adults to seniors. Children below 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Other activities that will be taking place during the Weekend Sustainability Fair include crafting botanical soap with upcycled coffee grounds and sculpting wildlife from clay.

Pre-registration and fees apply to selected workshops at the Weekend Sustainability Fair.

Slots are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Free NAFA art exhibition

Beyond the fair until Nov 29, a free NAFA art exhibition, located beside the ticketing counter outside Flower Dome, features five original zines, interpretive posters and a short film that invites visitors to reflect on their relationship with nature and how everyday actions can help protect it.

Admission to the NAFA art exhibition is free.

Race to Sustainability!

These public activities expand on Gardens by the Bay’s Race to Sustainability! programme, which is now into its 10th edition.

Gardens by the Bay CEO Mr Felix Loh said, “Protecting the environment is a responsibility we share, which is why Gardens by the Bay has grown Race to Sustainability! beyond its original focus on students to reach more people across our community. From an amazing race for students to a public symposium and Sustainability Fair, we hope to spark conversations about how environmental issues connect to our daily lives, and inspire the everyday choices that, together, build a more sustainable future.”

Race to Sustainability! is supported by main sponsor Mercedes-Benz and community partner Tote Board.
