Sedia! Come to attention at the Army Museum of Singapore.
Located on the grounds of the Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute (SAFTI), the Army Museum of Singapore provides a look into Singapore’s Army.
The Beginnings of the Army
The Museum begins with the tumultuous events surrounding the birth of the Army. This quickly moves on to the formative years of the Army where soldiers wore Temasek Green and carried a red code of conduct booklet.
There is a mock-up of a soldier’s bunk from the Seventies and displays of items like dog tags and an entrenchment tool used for digging trenches.
To provide a taste of army training, there is an Object Theatre where visuals and audio are interweaved with objects placed around the room.

Army Museum Shooting Range
A highlight of the Army Museum is its indoor shooting range. You can experience firing specially-rigged M15 and SAR21 rifles at this electronic range. Each entry ticket entitles the ticket holder to one game of shooting at the range. Shooters must be at least 1.2 metres tall.
Other indoor displays chronicling operations undertaken by the SAF. This includes United Nations peacekeeping missions and the Singapore Airlines hijacking incident.
Head Outdoor for Adventure
Outdoors, head to the Adventure Park. For those who have been through the army, they will recognise it as the dreaded Standard Obstacle Course or SOC. The 11 obstacles in this kid-sized version. Each obstacle has been scaled down to be suitable for children under the age of 14.
Climb over a low wall, swing on monkey bars and step light-footedly over the swinging bridge. There is even a mini Jacob’s ladder and Suicide Window to surmount. Kids will be more than happy to give these a go.
After tackling the Adventure Park, you can view the outdoor display military vehicles lined up for your inspection.
National Service is a rite of passage for Singaporean men. A visit to the Army Museum of Singapore is sure to invoke memories of “wearing green” among the men. We suspect it will also conjure up stories to be passed on from father to child and sure to bring them to “Attention!”
