Located in Shah Alam, i-City is a sprawling tech-driven amusement destination renowned for being Malaysia’s first open theme park illuminated by millions of digital LED lights.

For younger children, the park features a classic two-tier carousel, mini coasters, and gentle track rides. However, the absolute crown jewel for families is SnoWalk Aurora—a massive, sub-zero indoor arctic wonderland wrapped in real snow, ice slides, and intricate ice sculptures.

Stepping from Malaysia’s tropical humidity straight into a -8°C winter wonderland is an unforgettable thrill for kids.

We loved the pink sand playground at Fun Fun Park too. It’s a very instagrammable spot that’s perfect for making memories. There are also animal encounters, playground zones and a magical castle with slides at Fun Fun Park.

Located right in the heart of the city with direct transit access via Hang Tuah Station, LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC) perfectly blends a sleek Japanese-style retail experience with excellent family infrastructure.

While parents browse the retail outlets, younger children can hop onto a charming, brightly colored trackless mini bus that winds through designated entertainment zones of the mall.

The mini bus is a double-decker bus that is kid-sized. Adults can ride too, so families can hop on together.

Then head straight up to the central rooftop to discover the Misty Play Park. This architectural outdoor playground features specialized climbing structures and a regular release of cool water mist that lets children play, run, and cool down safely under the open sky without needing a full change of swimwear.

For a cultural and deeply engaging hands-on afternoon, take the family to the world-renowned Royal Selangor Visitor Centre in Setapak. Far from a dry, boring museum, this attraction makes history tangible.

Families are treated to a complimentary, high-energy guided tour featuring giant installations (like a massive replica of the Petronas Twin Towers made entirely of pewter mugs), live casting demonstrations, and sensory exhibits where kids can hear the distinct “pewter chime.” It was also fascinating to learn how pewter craftsmanship became part of the heritage of Kuala Lumpur as the tin mining industry shaped the early growth of the city.

The School of Hard Knocks Workshop

This is a must-book activity for children aged 8 and up. In this quick, 30-minute workshop, kids use traditional wooden mallets and engraving tools to hammer and shape their very own pewter dish from scratch, complete with their name stamped into the metal to take home as a permanent souvenir.

Where:4, Jalan Usahawan 6, Setapak Jaya, 53300 Kuala Lumpur
Ticket Prices: Workshop is at RM80

Petrosains, The Discovery Centre at Suria KLCC was a perfect blend of education and fun. There are dinosaur exhibits, oil-centred exhibits, 3D movies and science shows.

Kids gravitated towards the space exploration zone and they learnt so much! A plus point is the central location of Kids Discovery Centre. It’s easy to get in the city and also pair it with meals in the vicinity.

This attraction provides a fascinating look into various science topics in a fun and interactive manner. Visitors should plan to spend an hour or two inside this Suria KLCC-based centre if they want to a go at all its exhibits and watch its various shows.

For the ultimate gravity-fueled thrill, head north of the city to Rawang/Sungai Buloh (~45 minutes from central KL) to experience Gamuda Luge Gardens. This massive entertainment hub combines the world-famous Skyline Luge with a vibrant, family-centric amusement park, making it a spectacular full-day destination.

The Skyline Luge Experience

The adventure kicks off with the Skyride, a scenic four-seater chairlift that whisks you up to the top station with sweeping panoramic views of the hills. From there, hop into a three-wheeled luge cart where you have full steering and braking control as you fly down 1,600 meters of specialized tracks.

Complete with over 30 exhilarating twists, turns, and dramatic tunnels lit by multi-colored LED lights, it is an absolute blast. Kids over 110cm can drive solo, while smaller adventurers (85cm–110cm) can ride tandem right in the lap of a parent.

The FunPark & Big Bucket Splash

Once you’ve mastered the tracks, step right into the adjacent FunPark, which operates on a convenient pay-per-ride basis or via an all-access day pass. It features classic carnival attractions, a whimsical two-tier carousel, kid-friendly spinning rides like Jellycup Twist, and the Eye of Gardens—officially recognized as Malaysia’s tallest Ferris wheel in a theme park.

If the afternoon heat peaks, let the kids drench themselves at the Big Bucket Splash, a 10,000-square-foot water play zone packed with towering slides and massive tipping buckets.

Beyond the high-energy physical obstacles, children can dive into a massive interactive digital ball pit game or transition to the quiet role-playing zones, which feature a beautifully detailed miniature supermarket, toy kitchens, and brick-building zones designed to spark creative storytelling.

The facility also features an on-site cafe for light snacks, dedicated kids’ toilets, and secure lockers.

It uses advanced 720° holographic environments, motion sensors, and high-definition LED displays to drop your family straight into an alternate dimension.

What makes this attraction an absolute winner for families is that it is a naked-eye 3D experience. There are zero clumsy VR headsets or heavy 3D goggles required for the main exhibits, making it completely accessible and comfortable for younger children.

Younger kids will be completely mesmerized by the interactive elements, like a specialized scanner station where they can color in a physical drawing of a fish and watch it instantly come to life, swimming across a massive digital underwater wall.

For older kids and teenagers seeking an extra adrenaline rush, the venue offers dedicated premium upgrades, including an high-tech VR roller coaster simulator that delivers massive structural drops and fast-paced turns across alien terrains without any of the typical motion sickness.

If you are willing to take a day trip out of the city, Sky Mirror in Kuala Selangor is a breathtaking natural phenomenon that feels like a real-life magic trick for kids.

A few days every month during the new moon and full moon phases, low tides reveal a massive, hidden sandbank in the middle of the ocean. The ultra-shallow water layer acts as a flawless, infinite mirror reflecting the sky.

Children love the speed-boat ride out to the sandbank and running across the shallow waters spotting tiny hermit crabs and sand dollars. Professional tour guides bring vibrant props (like colorful umbrellas and plastic dinosaurs) and use specialized camera techniques to capture mind-bending, reflective family photos where you look like you are standing on water.

This requires a 1.5-hour drive from central KL to the Sasaran Jetty, followed by a 30-minute boat ride. Because departure times rely completely on daily tide charts, you may have an incredibly early morning start—pack plenty of snacks and a change of clothes for the kids!

You might even get to see pink dolphins while on your boat! Keep your eyes peeled.

Meet Friendly Animals at Farm Fresh @ UPM

Located in Serdang (approx. 30 minutes south of central KL), Farm Fresh @ UPM is an expansive, beautifully curated agro-tourism park born from a partnership with Universiti Putra Malaysia. It offers city kids a hands-on introduction to sustainable farming and animal care.

Children can hop on a tractor ride, watch live cow-milking demonstrations, wander through a sugar cane grand labyrinth, and feed a variety of gentle residents including rabbits, deer, and goats.

The Acre restaurant on-site serves incredible farm-to-table Italian meals, and you absolutely cannot leave without trying their signature soft-serve ice cream made with dairy fresh from the fields.

The property is highly exposed to the sun; plan an early morning or late afternoon visit to beat the tropical heat, and wear sturdy walking shoes.
