Around Singapore, 11 HDB façades have been turned into large-scale art works as part of a community-based initiative, HeARTs in Unity, to connect residents through the arts amidst the current COVID-19 situation and to celebrate National Day 2020.

Together, A Stronger Singapore!

Art installation by Yuhua CACC at Blk 228 Jurong East St 21.

The artworks featured in the installations are the creations of seven community artists. Each carries the tagline “Together, A Stronger Singapore!”, the theme of 2020’s National Day Parade.

The design of the artworks focuses on “People” and “Togetherness”. They incorporate selected photographs of residents who had earlier submit photographs of themselves with family and friends online during the Circuit Breaker period.

Some of the artworks also make use of shapes and colours to reflect our differences as individuals, but when pieced together, form a unified picture symbolising strength and community.

The artworks are printed on canvas and each takes around three to four hours to be installed.

On 9 August 2020, the National Day mobile column will make it was past the HDB blocks with the installations.

Artz Johan, the community artist for the installation under Bukit Panjang Community Arts and Culture Club (CACC), shared, “It is a challenging time, and this initiative is a good avenue for us to come together to stay united. One of my designs, which plays on the colours of the rainbow, showcases the diversity in Singapore and how we remain as one despite the differences, which is all the more important now during this period. Like a rainbow, it also symbolises hope and a better future.”

HeARTs in Unity is a project under People’s Association’s PAssionArts, together with its nine CACCs and the NDP2020 EXCO Committee.
