7 Artworks to Spot
From 18 September to 31 October, answer the trivia questions as you visit the artworks. They are located at various spots at One Holland Village. I would recommend doing this trail in the late afternoon or early evening to catch artworks that are lit.
Families will enjoy appreciating artworks together and even try to look out for hidden ones (hint: above you) or hidden ones in the art itself.
One popular piece is Reconstituted Philosophies by Jahan Loh. Made of stainless steel, the artist uses ready-to-eat canned food to show shifting cultural norms. You can spot his favourite childhood delicacies like chicken feet and pig trotters. We often see young children attempting to make music with the larger-than-life cans.
Next head to Holland Village Dreaming by Ripple Root. This long mural painting right by the escalators coming up from the basement carpark is a take on the neighbourhood’s past. See if you can spot elements like the iconic windmill!
Then head up the escalators to get closer to Interlude by Tomislav Topić. It is made up of 410 panels suspended. The 41 colour tones make it look like the sunset at certain angles or even the clear skies on sunny days.
At the top floor – also a space that young ones love to use to expend some energy or for students to catch up on their studying, is a sculpture titled FacetFormation 180 by Corten
Arik Levy. It is also made of steel and exemplifies the idea of looking through time while anticipating the future.
Head to the ground floor where the pets roam called Pocket Park. This where you cannot miss Dale Chihuly’s Singapore Sun using 1,500 hand-blown glass elements.
The last two artworks are best seen in the evening.
One is located at the pedestrian overhead bridge that crosses over to Holland Vista. The lights at the bridge changes. Don’t miss the rainbow hues. This light installation Dream Love Joy is by Very Small Exhibition.
Cross the rainbow then head down the escalator to the last artpiece – Nostalgia by Florence Yeo. Resembling a mosaic layout, it pays homag to old playgrounds of Singapore. It was inspired by LEGO and the colourful bricks are a cheery addition to the hood. It is also lit in the evening for an even more dramatic effect.
