Namja Town Japan at Sunshine City shopping mall in Ikebukuro, Tokyo is an indoor themed park. It is an amusement centre, atmospheric hang-out place and dining spot, all rolled into one.
At Namja Town Japan, visitors get to experience three different “towns” in one indoor location. Its mascot is Najavu the cat, whose image can be found all around.
Town 1: FUKUBUKURO 7 Chome Shopping Street
The largest “town” within Namja Town Japan is themed to look like a Japanese town from the Showa period in the 20th century. As you wander around its narrow lanes, past wooden buildings, you will as if you have been plunged into the middle of post-war Japan.
The atmosphere along the streets is a throwback to the past. Cosy nooks around “town” lend to the old-school vibe.
Namja Gyoza Stadium
One section of the FUKUBUKORO 7 Chome Shopping Street zone is devoted the gyoza. Billed as the Namja Gyoza Stadium, visitors can choose to try gyoza from seven different stalls lined up at this F&B area.
The food court-style stalls serve variations of pot-stickers from all over Japan. You can stuff yourself silly with various dumplings filled with ground meat (usually pork) and cabbage.
The types of gyoza available include Gyo-za Ko-bo, a pork-based gyoza from Gun-ma, and a cheese “winged” gyoza, a variation from Kamata. You will need to purchase the dumplings that you want from the individual stall and pay directly to them.
After having your fill of gyoza, there are also cute desserts available at FUKUBUKURO Dessert Yokocho or Dessert Alley nearby.
Games Around Town
At Namja Town Japan’s FUKUBUKORO 7 Chome, you will find games like Donbura Q Bath House Quiz Challenge and Namja Detective Group. Take note that many of these games are only available in the Japanese language.
However, there are games which can also be played even if you don’t speak Japanese.
NAJAVU’s Intense Fishing Spirits is an electronic fishing contest. Sit down and cast your fishing rod to try to land a fish from the big screen in front of you. The heavier the catch, the greater your ranking (and bragging rights).
Another game which will take you around Namja Town Japan is Mononoke Hunters.
You will see many people wandering around Namja Town Japan with what looks like a fishing reel, intensely exploring all manner of nooks and crannies.
This is Mononoke Hunters – a game where player need to try can catch Unidentified Mysterious Mononoke (UMM) or “evil spirits” using the rod.
It is like playing ghostbusters – but with a fishing rod instead of a vacuum cleaner.
Town 2: Dockkingham Plaza
Dockkingham Plaza is a town with a European and whimsical twist. Here you can find games like Bluebird of Happiness (Japanese language version only) and The Magical School’s Magic Experience.
There are also cute photo opportunities around Dockkingham Plaza at Namja Town Japan.
Town 3: MONONOKE Unnumbered Plot
The last “town” is a zone known as Mononoke Unnumbered Plot.
Activities here include Zombie Breaker, Mononoke Detective Troop and Yo-kai Watch. Take note that these attractions are only available in Japanese.
