What do pizza and records have in common? Besides both being round, they can both be purchased at Choice Cuts Pizza & Records along Joo Chiat Road where you can get a New York slice in Singapore.

We had more or less given up looking for authentic New York style pizzas in Singapore until we came across Choice Cuts Pizza along Joo Chiat Road

The pizza shop caught our eye because it had a big signboard on the outside that announced pizza sold by the slice.

Choice Cuts NYC Pizza in Singapore

Inside, Choice Cuts Pizza & Records gave off the vibes of typical small establishment that you would find in New York City. The walls were decorated with New York memorabilia with the most eye-catching piece being a huge picture of Kramer from Seinfeld.

On one side of the wall, there was a row of counter seat. There are very few seats. Choice Cuts is more akin to a grab and go place.

We love how the owners have a sense of humour and engage in wordplay. Besides both being round, pizzas and records share the ability to be cut. A bin of records can be found by the entrance and there is retail space with records on the floor above the pizza shop.

You can get a New York-style pizza either by the slice as as whole 18″ pie.

The Classic Cheese costs $7 for a slice or $38 for the entire pie.

The MF Shroom, Pepperoni and Mo’ Chorizo all costs $8 for a slice or $44 for the whole 18″ pie.

Other options include meat-lovers’s Big Poppa, along with Hell’s Chicken (love the pun), Al Green (veggie option), and more.

In addition, Choice Cuts also serves bagels with classics like a Smoked Salmon Lox and NYC Bacon, Egg & Cheese.

There are also some sweet items like tiramisu and Basque burnt cheesecake. Hot beverage such as coffee and alcohol are also on the menu.

Biting into New York Pizza in Singapore

We got the Pepperoni Homie. Ordering the whole pie, we had to wait for a while but it was worth it as it came out fresh and hot.

Once out of the oven, it was sliced up (they did this with more care than the pizza joints in New York ever do) and packed into a huge cardboard box. To fit the 18″ pizza, the cardboard box was huge and attracted attention from people we passed by.

However, the true test comes with the eating. In this respect, Choice Cuts’ NY pizza did not disappoint.

Choice Cuts Pizza

New York style pizza is not like the fast food varieties or the Italian style pizzas that can typically be found served in Singapore. Instead, it has a nice crunchy bite and is layered with cheese. It is so huge that the best way to eat it is to fold it along its radius to get it into the mouth.

The Pepperoni Homie hit all those points and it instantly brought us back to New York. The pizza is made with parmigiano reggiano, pecorino romano and parmesan cheeses. It tasted like an authentic New York slice. For an extra touch, Choice Cuts added fresh basil at the top. It is best to eat the pizza fresh at the pizza outlet.

If you are looking for an authentic taste of New York City pizza in Singapore, check out Choice Cuts Pizza & Records. It is as close as we’ve come across, even without the New York City water.
