New Sharity Website Launched

Share and Care

Sharity the Elephant

Sharity, the Community Chest’s pink elephant mascot, has found a new home online with the launch of his website on 21 March 2017.

The website, www.sharity.sg, aims to spread the message of caring deeply and sharing freely amongst primary school students, teachers and parents.

It was launched by Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social and Family Development at Methodist Girls’ School (MGS) during a Care Deeply, Share Freely with Sharity & Friends event held in conjunction with the school’s 130th anniversary celebrations.

Mr Chew Kwee San, Vice Chairman of Community Chest and Chairman of the Sharity Programme Sub-Committee said, “Community Chest saw the need to engage young children to care and share through platforms that are close to their hearts. The website and animation episodes were specifically developed to target young children who are technologically savvy and can relate well to animation characters. For parents, teachers and students, a one-stop portal enables them to access the information they require anytime, anywhere, at one click of the mouse.”

Nurturing the Values of Sharing and Caring

Students from MGS and Rainbow Centre interacted with each other during the launch of the Sharity websiteAt the launch event, more than 1,300 students from MGS and Rainbow Centre interacted with each other through inclusive activities.

Interactive booths where MGS girls experienced what it is like for people with disabilities.

Experiential booths were also set up to allow MGS students to get a taste of what is like to live with disabilities.

MGS has been a long-time supporter of Community Chest’s Children’s Day Appeal and has piloted a project that provides employment for two beneficiaries with intellectual disabilities from the Association of Persons with Special Needs within the school’s canteen.

Ms Grace Ng, Principal of Methodist Girls’ School, said, “The care and share values conveyed through the Sharity animation and resources found on the Sharity website complements the character and citizenship lessons that we currently have in schools. We hope that our students can put into practice what they have learnt, when they interact with persons with special needs.”
