Weekend Picks: 27 to 28 February 2016


It’s going to be one activity-packed weekend! Apart from the many family-friendly performances being staged, there’s also plenty of other fun things going on, from storytelling sessions at the musuem to nature-based outings. So get ready and let’s go!

1. The Boy Who Cried Wolf

Bunny is a floppy toy rabbit who is simply not happy at the way he is. He tries and tries to find the right stuffing for himself, and even his friends pitch in to help, but nothing is exactly right. 3. The Art of Speed’s Tinkering Sundays: Elevate Your Car II

Experiment using cranks, pulleys, elevators and gears to move things like your own toy cars. Have fun trying out the different techniques and simple mechanics, or maybe even create your own complex circuits. Details here.


4. NParks Community in Nature Family Day – In Harmony with Nature

27 Feb, 3:30 pm to 7 pm

Pasir Ris Park, Viewing Plaza

Celebrate our natural heritage at the first Community in Nature (CIN) Family Day! There are various fun and educational activities for families to bond over while discovering the flora and fauna of Pasir Ris Park, from nature-based craft and activity stations to an Amazing Race for families. 5. Treasures of the World Storytelling Sessions for Children

27 & 28 Feb, 1 pm & 3 pm

The Salon, National Museum

Take in tales of magical creatures and gods, as master storyteller Kamini Ramachandran takes you on a story-filled journey through the National Museum’s Treasures of the World exhibition. The theme this weekend: Gods Making Mischief. Pre-registration required. Find out more.


6. The Three Billy Goats Gruff

Till 26 Mar

DBS Arts Centre

The Mandarin version of last year’s hit English production, this entertaining musical promises lots of silly fun and giggles. Follow the three goats “Baby”, “Middle” and “Big” on their adventure to cross the bridge in search of more bountiful pastures.


7. 1st Car-Free Sunday SG

28 Feb, 7 am to 7 pm

Civic District and parts of the Central Business District

Leave your cars behind and enjoy a walking day out around the Padang, City Hall and CBD as these areas transform into a car-free zone. An initiative that takes another step towards a car-lite future, visitors can enjoy mass aerobic sessions, walking tours and street performances. Museums within the zones will also open earlier at 9 am. Read on.

8. Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are In A Play!”

27 Feb to 13 Mar

Ulu Pandan CC Theatrette

Two unusual friends, an elephant and a pig, who are the best, best, bestus of friends, learn some lessons about friendship, trying hard and being true to yourself. With lively songs and funny characters, this is great entertainment for young and old. Details here.


9. Dahlia Dreams Floral Display

Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay

It’s the last weekend to catch this beautiful floral exhibition, inspired by the Chinese classic storyJourney to the West. Featuring famous elements from the novel, such as the Monkey King’s home mountain, it’s a stunning landscape with plenty of surprising touches to look out for.


10. Oh Baby! Supermom Baby Shower

27 Feb, 9 am to 12:30 pm & 1:30 pm to 5 pm

Singapore Turf Club

Celebrate upcoming motherhood at this big pregnancy party. Enjoy a relaxing brunch, take part in some fun, easy games and activities like the the Mummy Pagaent, or trade tips with other mummies-to-be. Pre-registration required.
