The NTUC Income Kite Festival Singapore presented by ACT 3 International is back for its fifth year with the theme, “Winds the Bind”. Since the first Kite Fiesta held in 2008, the Kite Festival has grown in popularity, attracting an estimated 58,000 people in 2012.
This year, kite enthusiasts can look forward to even more fun, flying festivities with different events scheduled to be held all over the island between June to September 2013.
Fly High in June with Two Events
Kicking off at Tampines Fields along Tampines Industrial Avenue 3 on 1 and 2 June 2013, Kite Giants – Big and Wondrous is a community kite-flying fiesta where some of the world’s largest kites, even bigger than houses, will take flight. Get enthralled by stunt kite performances by teams from the US, Japan, Indonesia and Singapore, and get in on the action by putting your kite into the air as well.
At the other end of June is the debut of the Children’s Kite Carnivale at the Festival. This will be held on 29 and 30 June at West Coast Park.
[Update on 26 June 2013: The Children’s Kite Carnivale has been postponed from 30 June to 4 August due to the haze.]
Designed with children between the ages of 2 and 12 in mind, the Children’s Kite Carnivale will include wind garden displays, kite-making workshops and arts & crafts sessions. Other kid-friendly activities that can be expected include sing-along sessions and even parent-and-child team competitions.
Up, Up and Away
Other dates to mark out include the 21 and 22 July for an Indoor Kite Flying Show at a yet-to-be-disclosed location in the North, as well as 31 July and 1 September for the finale of Grand Flying Days at The Promontory @ Marina Bay.
Off to the Beach: Sign up for special trial music classes for preschoolers with The Music Circle (19 August)
Little Day Outing: Get a Peek Behind the Scenes on a Little Day Out to Singapore Dance Theatre
ACT 3 International will also be conducting a Kite Education School Tour in July and August to bring the joy and wonder of kite-flying to students.
