Light Up of Asia’s Tallest LEGO Christmas Tree

Christmas Tree

It was Thursday, 29 November 2012 and a day that would end differently at LEGOLAND Malaysia. As the closing time drew closer, anticipation built up as we waited expectantly for the light up of the LEGO Christmas Tree, an annual tradition carried out in LEGOLAND parks all over the world to mark the Christmas season.
LEGOLAND’s Christmas tree is not just a normal Christmas tree that you can buy out of the supermarket. The tree is made entirely out of LEGO bricks. The total number of LEGO bricks used to build this 9 metres tall Christmas tree is exactly 427,695! Not a small number at all.

If this is not enough to blow you away, it is also adorned with 260 ornaments that bedazzle this amazing LEGO Christmas Tree along with its 108 LED candles. Yes, this Christmas Tree has the ability to light up as well, even though it is made up of LEGO bricks!

The LEGO Christmas Tree took an overwhelming 10 weeks to build, with the help of a team of nine people and an advanced computer programme. It was then shipped to Malaysia all the way from the Czech Republic to be assembled by the model builders from LEGOLAND Malaysia. Getting this tree was definitely hard work.

Thus, it was indeed an honour to be able to experience the light-up and when that magical moment came, the applause was truly well-deserved.

The humble LEGO brick can bring a whole land of fun to people, and after seeing the enormous Tree, we are now amazed by the additional emotions of joy and wonderment it too is able to stir up!
