You can almost hear the train rumbling down the tracks at the KTM train playground at Clementi NorthArc. This unique little playground for younger kids is so much fun and also evokes a sense of nostalgia.

Located at the B1 level of Block 209B Clementi Avenue 6 at the Clementi NorthArc estate, just beside the childcare centre, the outdoor KTM train playground is one-of-a-kind.

The train playground sits on top of a set of “train tracks”. It has the distinctive shape of the old KTM trains that used to ply the route between Malaysia and Singapore.

The play structure is made up of two components.

Diesel locomotive

A diesel locomotive leads the way, pulling along a passenger carriage behind.

Supension

We liked the detailing of the train, for example, with the wheel suspensions.

At the very front, there is a sign that says Singapore Train, making it clear where the train is bound for.

There are different entranceways to climb aboard the train. Everything is kid-sized and cute.

Control the train playground

Right up front, they can look out of the smallish window and imagine a landscape going past.

Train controls

Kids can man the controls and pretend they are driving the train.

Play panels

There are play panels located inside the engine where kids can pretend to be train engineers, keeping the locomotive going.

Seats in the KTM train playground

Connected to the locomotive is the passenger car.

Passenger car seats at the train playground

There are colourful seats where kids can pretend they are passengers, chugging along on a journey from Malaysia to Singapore.

Slide at the KTM train playground at Clementi NorthArc

At the rear of the passenger car, there is a slide that kids can use to exit the train.

Switch

To complete the theming, there is also a switch beside the train structure. While it cannot be moved, it adds a nice touch, making the KTM train playground look like it is passing through a station like the Bukit Timah Railway Station.

Historic Links

Why is the KTM railway playground here?

That’s because this section of the Clementi NorthArc estate lies on top of what used to be the Jurong Line of the railway. This line used to take goods down to the Jurong industrial area.

Jurong line

You can still view part of the old Jurong Line close to the KTM train playground.

Crates

Since the Jurong Line was a goods line, it is also nice that some crates have also been included as part of the small playground’s theming.

Play equipment at the Clementi Train Playground

Other pieces of play equipment include some teeter-totters.

Seating Area

There is also a seating area for caregivers.

Fun at the KTM Train Playground

Even though the KTM train playground is a small one, it is a fun one. We are adding it to our list of favourite train playgrounds in Singapore that includes the crazy tilting train at Tiong Bahru and the train playground at Villa Verde Park.

The KTM train playground is located in front of Block 209B Clementi Avenue 6. It is also accessible from the south bank of the Ulu Pandan Park Connector.

There are also several other fun playgrounds around Clementi NorthArc worth exploring, including a whale playground, beehive playground and climbing playgrounds.
