1 May 2013 saw some changes to the Marriage & Parenthood Package taking place. Other than the one week government-paid paternity leave for fathers, there were also enhancements to the child care leave scheme.

Under the Marriage & Parenthood Package, parents with at least one child below 7 years old can look forward to 6 days of paid child care leave each year. From 1 May, parents with at least one child between 7 and 12 can now look forward to 2 days of paid child care leave per year.

This enhancement recognises the need for parents to remain actively involved with their children even as they leave behind their “kindy” years and enter the primary school system. In fact, some may argue that it is more critical for parents to be involved during these years as children are exposed to a myriad of influences at school.

Hopefully, whether your child is below or above 7, you are able to take some time off to spend with the family. With the school holidays coming up in a month’s time, there is no better time to start thinking up ideas on how to spend that family time. We at Little Day Out certainly hope to keep providing you with some of these ideas and reasons to take leave!
