Playgrounds inspired by the Garden’s Flora & Fauna

Elephant Ear Fig Playground

Playgrounds inspired by the Garden's Flora & Fauna

Imagine being a fig wasp and crawling through the insides of an elephant ear fig.

Like the other playgrounds at this year’s Children’s Festival at the Supertree Grove, the installation is based on flora and fauna that can be found at Gardens by the Bay.

The elephant ear fig has a symbiotic relationship with its pollinator, the fig wasp.

The female fig wasp tunnels into a fig to lay her eggs and spreads pollen she has gathered from the previous fig to the flowers growing within the fig. The eggs hatch into male and females who mate. The females then flies out of the fig through tunnels made by the males to find a new fig.

Then climb through a honeycomb like a busy worker bee at the Honeybee Playground before sliding out like the buzzing honeybees in its nests.

Take the Caterpillar Train Ride

Take the Caterpillar Train Ride

Kids who love train rides will want to go on the caterpillar train that takes kids around the six flora and fauna installations at the nature-inspired playground.

Kids can learn more about the role each plays in the ecosystem through an audio guide.

Train rides run non-stop from 12 pm to 6 pm daily.

Ticket prices are $10 for children, $12 for adults and $20 for an adult-child bundle.

Tickets can be bought at the strain station opposite the Supertree Observatory at Supertree Grove.
