We love it when playgrounds become a way to connect the present to the past, and this is the case with the Boon Lay Glade playground with its bright red fire engine and tower, as well as the general theming around the neighbourhood.
Boon Lay Glade Fire Engine Playground
Boon Lay Glade is a HDB development at Boon Lay Drive that occupies on the site of the old Jurong Fire Station. The Jurong Fire Station relocated to its new location at 22 Jurong West Street 26 in 2017 (which incidentally was also the first fire station in Singapore to have a firefighter’s slide instead of a traditional sliding pole).
As a nod to its past, Boon Lay Glade’s design and colour scheme reflect the site’s heritage.
This heritage is also captured in the Boon Lay Glade playground which has been themed to look like fire engines and other vehicles that you might find in a fire station.

The main play structure is a spiffy-looking, bright red fire engine.
Kids can use a ramp to climb onboard and make their way up to the cab at the front of the vehicle.
Inside, there are also play panels for kids.
At the rear of the fire engine, there is a raised platform where kids can make their way down on a bright yellow tube slide that vaguely resembles a fire hose or another open slide.
Play Tower
Adjacent to the fire engine playground is a play tower. Kids can climb up the multi-level tower which has a spiralling tube slide at the very top.
Since it is a fire station-themed playground, it is no surprise that you will find fireman poles at the playground.
To expend even more energy, there are a set of seesaws at the playground.
Or hop on board the stationary bikes to pedal away.
Bounce on the trampoline at the playground.
Or go bouldering at the nearby climbing rock.

Fire Station Tower at Boon Lay Glade
Another distinctive feature at Boon Lay Glade is the old Jurong Fire Station Tower that been preserved for posterity. This iconic seven-storey tower with its distinctive tile motif was setup in 1976 and used as part of the Jurong Fire Training School.
The tile motif is reflected in the neighbourhood’s design and there are also wayfinding signs that reflect the fire station past.
The Fire Station Tower is currently closed as of July 2024, but, according to Minister Desmond Lee, it will have a heritage gallery that celebrates the history of the Jurong Fire Station as well as climbing facilities.
Just next to the Fire Station Tower, there is a Boon Lay Glade playground for toddlers that is also to be opened.
Yet another to-be-opened children’s playground can be found next to Block 239.
The Boon Lay Glade fire engine playgrounds can be found at 238A Boon Lay Way.
