The Flower Dome has been transformed into a pastoral landscape with the return of Tulipmania 2024 at Gardens by the Bay, the first flower display to have reached its 10th edition.
Tulipmania has to so popular that it has become a staple of Gardens by the Bay’s calendar of floral displays. This year, Tulipmania 2024 at the Flower Dome pays tribute to the inaugural show in the design of the centre field. Just like in 2013, tulips are uniformly planted in rows of singular colour. This evokes the charm of traditional Dutch tulip fields.

Entering into the Flower Dome, you will first be greeted by a traditional Dutch farmhouse.

It acts as a photo spot to welcome visitors to Tulipmania 2024.
This is the first of several farm buildings.
This year Tulipmania highlights the modern side of the Netherlands for the first time, with examples of technological advancements such as wind turbines and vertical farming, in addition to the traditional tulip fields.
Making your way down to the Flower Field, one of the displays is a model of the green Zannse Schans Farmhouse. This is the a cultural heritage site and is a typical example of traditional Dutch farmhouse dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries
Another building model is a Dutch watermill. These have been in use in the Netherlands since the middle ages.
You can also find farm animals standing around the beautiful tulip flowers.
At the centrepiece is the a large windmill, with its sails spinning around.
Also on display are are models of wind turbines up to 5.5 m tall that highlight the Netherlands’ evolution towards a focus on sustainability and renewable energy.
Vertical farming techniques as also showcased with a set-up by local farms Green Harvest and Greenhood in Mediterranean Garden of Flower Dome.
Tulips at Gardens by the Bay’s Flower Dome
However, the stars of Tulipmania 2024 are the 54,000 tulips of more than 20 varieties.
Some to look out for include the Tulipa Purple Circus, a fringed tulip with white flowers and eye-catching pinkish-purple accents. Another is the Tulipa Double Negrita. It has petals of a deep, rich shade of velvety purple. The Tulipa Negrita Crown, a crown tulip, has flowers in an intense dark violet colour. The petals of crown tulips roll up at the edge, into an almost-tubular shape, giving it a crown-like appearance.
Miniature Houses
On display in Tulipmania is also the full set of 104 Delft Blue miniature houses from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, the official airline partner for Tulipmania. As a way of sharing Dutch culture with the world, these miniature houses have been presented to Business Class passengers on intercontinental flights since the 1950s. Each little house is modelled after a real Dutch building of historical and architectural interest.
For this year’s Tulipmania, visitors have two opportunities to win economy-class round trip air tickets sponsored by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines by match the Delft Blue Houses with the correct house numbers. There will also be a Mother’s Day giveaway.
