Singapore’s UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrates its rich heritage with the Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2017. The festival takes place over the first two weekends of July and is filled with activities catering to all ages.
Here are six reasons to pay a visit to Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2017.
1. Enjoy Children’s Craft Activities
Special craft-making activities will be held at the Green Pavilion at the Tangine Core during Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2017. These cute crafts have been inspired by the Gardens and include making a 3D miniature version of the iconic Bandstand and a pop-up orchid. No registration is required.

2. Relax to the Sound of Music
During Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2017, there will be concerts held in the evenings at both the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage and the Bandstand.
At the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage, a special high-energy multi-cultural performance, Rustle, will be held on Saturday, 1 July. This will feature groups such as yIN Harmony, Reverberance and Bellydance Extraordinaire.
On the same evening, at the Bandstand there will be performances by Intercultural Jam and Nam Hwa Opera from 7.30 pm onwards.
The next day, Sunday, 2 July, NAC-ExxonMobil Concert in the Park will feature string chamber group, T’ang Quartet and guzheng trio Z3nith Ensemble.
On Friday, 7 July, Intercultural Jam will be back at the Bandstand, along with Bronzage Gamelan and local fusion group, Flame of the Forest.
Saturday, 8 July, will see a Mando/Canto/Hokkien special at the grand stand with Jason Chung and The ETC.
Concluding the performances for Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2017 on Sunday, 9 July, at the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage is the Sembawang Wind Orchestra and A Capella group, The Apex Project.
3. Wander the National Orchid Garden for Free
Orchids have a long association with Singapore Botanic Gardens. On 1, 2, 8 and 9 July, local residents get to enjoy free admission to National Orchid Gardens. Enjoy the sea of colour created by brightly coloured orchids, including Singapore’s National Flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim.
On the four dates of 1, 2, 8 and 9, receive a free Tea Sampler Pack with any purchase from the Garden Shop at National Orchid Garden, while stocks last.

4. Go on a Garden Tour
Learn more about the Gardens and its flora from knowledgeable guides. There will be 3 Heritage Tours held daily on 1, 2, 8 and 9 July. In addition, tours will be conducted around the Healing Garden, Rainforest and Learning Forest. Tours are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

5. Have Picnic with a Bucket
Tiong Bahru Bakery will be holding a special picnic day on 8 and 9 July, 3 pm to 7 pm at Palm Valley.
Dubbed the Weird Wonderful World, order a picnic BUCKET from Tiong Bahru Bakery and get ready to enjoy food, music and inflatables for the kids to play on.

6. Soak in the Old-School Atmosphere at Food for Thought’s Mini Carnival
In conjunction with Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2017, Food For Thought will be organising an old school mini carnival at its premises on 8 and 9 July. Try out games such as Goli and Chapteh while enjoying kanchang putih and ice balls.
For the occasion, Food For Thought has also concocted a new heritage set – Nasi Lemak Risotto and Iced Rose Bandung Ice Cream ripple. The Nasi Lemak Risotto combines a crispy chicken cutlet with coconut risotto, a poached egg, ikan bilis and peanuts. It is available till end July at $18.
