The Red Dot Design Museum is fittingly housed in an elegant glass building at the edge of Marina Bay. It showcases winners of the Red Dot Award, a prestigious, international award that recognises the very best of design from all over the world.
The original Red Dot Design Museum is located in Essen, Germany. Run by Design Zentrum, a German design institute, its focus is on product design.
The Red Dot Design Museum in Singapore is the second to open in the world and focuses on the best in design concepts.
Showcase Of Design Concepts From The Red Dot Competition
Inside the Red Dot Design Museum, winning entries from the international Red Dot competition are displayed in glass showcases. These design concepts have been organised into categories such as The Great Urban Migration, The Urban Warrior, Play and New Dwelling.
For each winning item, in addition to a picture, each design concept is accompanied by a description and credits. Be prepared to read to appreciate the exhibits.
While the showcased design concepts point the way to the future, they may not yet have been commercialised.
There are, however, a few prototypes on display. These and the various design concepts can be found across the two levels of the Red Dot Design Museum.
Access to the Red Dot Design Museum is ticketed.
