Located just beside Haig Girls’ School in the historic Joo Chiat district of Singapore is Koon Seng Park. The small neighbourhood park is just a stone’s throw away from the colourful Peranakan houses and Joo Chiat Road.
What’s at Koon Seng Park
A large part of Koon Seng Park is actually paved over, making it an open space is perhaps suitable for people who wish to get outside and enjoy the outdoors.
With several lovely trees, it is a quiet oasis in the Joo Chiat area. Park benches dot the park, providing spots for passers-by to enjoy a break. There is also a pavilion in the park that offers shelter from the sun and rain.
The park has exercise facilities for those who wish to get a workout.
Another feature of Koon Seng Park is the half-court basketball court. This piece of sports equipment invites residents to have a game or two together. However, as signs around the basketball hoop indicate, there is a need to be mindful of the noise levels since Koon Seng Park very much in a residential neighbourhood.
Koon Seng Park Playground
The Koon Seng Park Playground is a simple affair.
There is an unusual climbing wall. Made from plastic, it is where kids can climb up and down under the supervision of their minders.
To one side, two stacks of tree stumps create another climbing feature that kids can explore, similar to what can be found in the nature playgardens around Singapore.
Another play feature at the Koon Seng Park playground is an arc-shaped see saw.
Koon Seng Park Dog Run
Another draw for dog owners is the Koon Seng Park Dog Run. This gated area provides a space where dog can be let off the leash and have the freedom to run around and exercise.
The Koon Seng Park Dog Run is a welcomed spot in the urban Joo Chiat neighbourhood.
It also makes sense since there are a bevy of pet stores near by along Joo Chiat Road.
