Parents with young children between 18 months and 8 years old can look forward to Kids STOP, a new science centre facility scheduled to open by June 2014.

Catering to children in the pre-school and lower primary age groups, Kids STOP will have galleries and interactive exhibits designed to make science accessible to young children. Aimed at sparking the interest of young children in science, it will also serve to promote parent-child bonding.

The new children’s science centre will be housed within the Omni Theatre building and is divided into four themed zones – Imagine, Experience, Discover and Dream.

At the Imagine zone, children will be able to practise creative and communication skills through specially designed but familiar places such as the movie theatre and supermarket.

The Experience zone will give children a chance to appreciate art and nature through interactions with live animals, stop motion animation and more.

In the Discover zone, children will be introduced to science, technology and scientific principles such as light, sound and magnetism.

The final zone is the Dream zone where there will be a 9-metre tall climbing exhibit with elements that include leaves, a flying fish and giant gears.

Describing the new children’s science centre, Associate Professor Lim Tit Meng, Chief Executive, Science Centre Singapore said, “Children learn best through play so we planned the various zones and playful activities at Kids STOP such that they are relevant for curious minds and provide lots of opportunities to explore, experiment and experience the world and science around us.”

Kids STOP is managed by the Science Centre Board. Visit the Kids STOP website atwww.kidsstop.edu.sg
