More than 50 booths offering a range of retail products, including some designed by individuals with special needs, took part in the inaugural ‘Everyday Folk Market’ last Saturday, 23 April 2016.

The weekend market also featured food stalls, art for sale and fringe activities such as a film screening and music performances. A highlight of the event was a ‘live’ drawing performance based on the theme of inclusiveness by local art collective, Band of Doodlers.

Organised by SG Enable, an organisation dedicated to building an inclusive society, in partnership with The Local People, activities at the market were accessible for persons with disabilities to enjoy with the rest of the community.

“We hope through organising such activities in which both able-bodied people and persons with disabilities are able to come together and enjoy themselves, we will help to promote a more inclusive society,” added Ms Ku Geok Boon, Chief Executive Officer, SG Enable.

Last weekend’s ‘Everyday Folk Market’ was held at the Enabling Village, a community space at 20 Lengkok Bahru. In the future, inclusive weekend markets will continue held there every quarter and are open to the public.
