Singapore Science Festival 2019 is planning something slimy – literally! On Friday, 13 September 2019, everyone is invited to help play a part in creating a giant slime installation at Fusionopolis One as part of the X-periment! @ one north Science carnival.

Slime Time

From 10 am to 4 pm, get hands-on and make your own batch of slime with materials provided. Individual batches of slime will then be loaded into a 3-metre-long “This is Science” structure to create a massive slime art piece.

“This is Science” is the theme of the Singapore Science Festival 2019, which X-periment! is part of. Jointly organised by Science Centre Singapore and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), the annual festival aims to spark an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

In the case of the slime installation, the hands-on activity showcases the chemical properties of slime and science principles like viscosity, polymers and chemical reactions. Slime is usually created from a mixture of household items like glue, facial wash and contact lens solution. Combined, the ingredients create a polymer substance that acts like both a solid and a liquid, depending on how you play with it.

More importantly, slime is fun to make and squish about with the fingers.

Impossible Science Show

Another highlight at X-periment! @ one north is the “Impossible Science Show” by famed world champion magician Jason Latimer.

Latimer’s show combines magic and science, demonstrating how the right question changes everything. His shows will be held at 2.30 pm on 13 and 14 September at the Genexis Theatre, Fusionopolis One.

X-periment! @ one-north – The Future of Everyone

There will also be around 30 booths at X-periment! @ one north centred around the theme “The Future of Everyone”. Part of the one-north Festival, the exhibits at the science fair will feature focus on innovations for a sustainable planet and promote STEM, for example insect farming for sustainable protein production and VR therapy for dementia patients.

It is also an opportunity for the public to meet with scientists and the one-north community.

Admission to X-periment @ one-north is free.
