The Children’s Discovery Area at Jurong Lake Garden’s Therapeutic Garden is a sensory garden designed for children. With various areas to activate the senses, it is an area where kids can explore and reconnect with nature at the same time.
Jurong Lake Garden Therapeutic Garden
Therapeutic Gardens are locations which incorporate features that make use of plants and plant-related activities to help people renew their well-being. Jurong Lake Garden’s Therapeutic Garden is located between the Forest Ramble playground and the Garden House.
The Jurong Lake Gardens Therapeutic Garden consists of two parts – a Butterfly Maze and a Children’s Discovery Area.
Children’s Discovery Area
The Children’s Discovery Area is a made up of several zones. These includes the Fragrant Zone, a Sound Zone, a Touch Zone and a Plant Zoo.

In the Fragrant Zone, there are plants which engage the sense of smell. Be sure to “stop and smell the roses” as you make your way through this zone of the Children’s Discovery Garden.
For a completely immersive experience, duck into a trellis area. Just be aware that it is kid-height.
The Sound Zone has various musical instruments where kids can engage with sounds in a natural setting. We love the way a piano keyboard design is incorporated into the flooring.
The Touch Zone has planters where visitors can get a tactile feel of various types of plants. It is literally an opportunity to reconnect with nature.
There is also a Plant Zoo at the Children’s Discovery Area. Don’t worry, the plants don’t bite.
In Touch with Nature
Other fun features at the Children’s Discovery Area include a little labyrinth. Of course, for more maze fun, head to the adjacent Butterfly Maze.
There is also a water feature beneath some wisping willow trees.
You can use water to doodle on a slab.
A heritage area provides a look at gardens from Singapore’s past and even has an old-school chess table – the kind you’d find at void decks at HDB flats.
There’s also a sheltered pavilion with some exhibits on people’s relationship with nature.
The Jurong Lake Gardens Therapeutic Garden is a nice spot to wander about to relax and the Children’s Discovery Area is educational for kids. When visiting, be sure to explore the Butterfly Maze too.
