The great weather lent cheer to the enthused students who were raring to champion their cause for a greener environment at the Young Green Champions Roadshow on 13 and 14 July 2013.

Held at Gardens By The Bay, the Roadshow aimed to enrich the experience of the students who had been nominated in the Green Carpet Awards 2013.

Tour Guide for the Day

Taking on the role as tour guides, the Green Carpet Awards winners and nominees each took groups of 20 to 30 members of the public on walking trails at Gardens By The Bay, allowing each student the opportunity to share their thoughts on protecting Mother Nature with the public.

When asked if the experience was daunting, student Tibor Adams Kovacs from Blangah Rise Primary School said, “I wasn’t afraid. In fact, I was very excited to share what I know. Nature is very important to us, without which it will be impossible for us to live.”

Tibor was also particularly excited about a mudskipper he saw while taking his group around the trail, saying, “It’s not something that we see everyday.”

Since taking part in the Green Carpet Awards, Tibor has deepened his understanding of the importance of the environment and added that we should all do our part to protect it.

Brimming with pride was Mr. Kovacs, Tibor’s father, who shared that they were surprised at first to find out his son’s photograph had been selected as a nominee for the Green Carpet Awards. He added that Tibor has had his own camera since young and loves taking pictures.

Growing Through New Opportunities

A representative of World EduCorp, organiser of Green Carpet Awards, highlighted that the students had participated in workshops to groom their public speaking skills in preparation for the Young Green Champions Roadshow.

This preparation had clearly paid off as the students confidently led their tour groups, including many family members who had turned up in full support of their children and their achievements, on the trails. Also impressed were members of the public who were bowled over by the knowledge and earnestness of the students towards green issues and causes.

The exhibition of the photo-essays by the winners and nominees of the Green Carpet Awards can be viewed at the Gallery at Gardens By The Bay till 21 July 2013.
