Sakura display at the Flower Dome

The Sakura display at the Flower Dome is the only place in Singapore, and in the tropics internationally where visitors can experience the ephemeral beauty of so many cherry blossom varieties in a single setting.

At the Flower Field, you can walk through a path where you will be enveloped by cherry blossoms. It really feels as if you have been immersed into the world of hanami where you can enjoy the pink blooms.

A highlight of this year’s display is the Japanese weeping cherry, Prunus yedoensis Yoshino Shidare, a rare sight even in Japan. This tree is known for its gracefully cascading branches adorned with clusters of soft pink flowers.

Making its debut at Gardens by the Bay’s cherry blossom display is the Japanese Hill Cherry, Prunus lannesiana Kawazu-zakura.

Native to Japan, this striking variety stands out with its large, vibrant blooms that range from deep pink to an almost reddish hue—distinct from the typically pastel-coloured cherry blossoms.

Crowd favourite Prunus Accolade, a mainstay since the floral display first began in 2016, also returns. Known for its abundant clusters of pale pink blooms, this beloved variety continues to captivate visitors year after year.

Uncover the Hidden Gems of Fukuoka Prefecture at the Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay

Uncover the Hidden Gems of Fukuoka Prefecture at the Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay

This year, Fukuoka Prefecture’s seamless blend of rich traditions and modern creativity is on show at the sakura display at Gardens by the Bay.

Amidst the sea of pink and white blooms stands a recreation of the historic Kokura Castle in the city of Kitakyushu, accompanied by 130 enchanting bamboo lanterns specially brought in from the city’s annual Takeakari Bamboo Lantern Festival.

Bamboo lanterns

These lanterns are crafted from bamboo harvested from abandoned forests in Kitakyushu—a sustainable initiative that not only mitigates the environmental impact of fast-growing bamboo but also engages citizen volunteers in creating lanterns for the festival.

With glowing interiors, these bamboo lanterns are a unique way to illuminate the Flower Field. At night, they provide a soft glow that makes the Sakura display look even more magical.

Visit at night to view these lanterns illuminating the Flower Dome. This is part of the yozakura (night Sakura) experience, which is back for the second time.

The lanterns complement the centrepiece of the yozakura experience this year, the recreation of the city of Fukuoka’s striking light installation, the 5.6m-tall Phantom Castle—an artistic interpretation of a castle tower that is said to have once existed.

You can also step into the main castle structure where there are also craft items that are iconic of Fukuoka Prefecture specially on loan from Japan, such as the Hakata and Tsuyazaki dolls, Kokura textiles and Magoji kite, on display.

There is also a mesmerising installation where three gongs are sounds by beaters, powered by water. Or you can also pause to watch as water drips down to the pool below.
