If there’s one request I’m regularly fielding from my seven- and nine-year-olds, it’s “Can we play board games together? Can we? Can we, please?”.

Usually, the response they get is, “Sorry darlings, mummy has work to do/is too tired/wants to watch TV”. So you can imagine how stoked they were when they were told that not only were we having a staycation at the Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, but we could spend as much time as we (OK, mainly they) liked in the room playing Monopoly.

It’s Game, Set and Match On

The hotel’s Game Night room package was recently introduced in conjunction with the launch of the Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore’s bespoke Monopoly board game – a first by a hotel under the luxury chain.

For this exclusive Monopoly edition, three of the six tokens have been customised to reflect what the hotel is known for – its lion-and-crown logo, a suitcase and a Formula One race car.

Ritz Carlton Monopoly GameLocations on the board have been changed to those in and around the establishment, such as the Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge and Singapore Flyer. In place of train stations, you have hotel experiences like the Ritz Kids Playland. Community Chest cards are now Treasure Chest cards. And utilities have become hotel services like Limousine Transfer and Personal Butler.

Monopoly Game at Ritz CarltonAs part of the package, guests are given one set of the game per stay, which they can bring home with them. The game’s travel-size format also makes it extremely handy to bring along on your next vacation.

An In-theme Welcome

A Ritz Carlton Monopoly WelcomeThe first thing that caught our attention when we entered the Deluxe Suite was the welcome platter in the form of a glass-topped Monopoly board. On it were assorted sweet treats like a Chance box made of milk chocolate, containing white chocolate balls.

Views from Ritz Carlton SingaporeWe were also blown away by the panoramic views from the suite’s living room and bedroom. Talk about the high life!

Bath and Body Works

Ritz Carlton BathroomBut it was the sight of the big tub with the priceless view, fluffy junior-sized bathrobes and cute-as-a-button children’s amenities that really got the kids going. And with that, our staycation kicked off.

Ritz Kids AmenitiesCue squeals, giggles and a very wet bathroom as they splashed about and helped themselves to liberal scoops of scented bath salts.

Tucking into the welcome food at Ritz CarltonLater, when the water got cold and they had worked up an appetite, they got comfy in the uber soft bathrobes and proceeded to attack the welcome treats (which only a while ago had seemed too pretty to eat) with gusto.

The Game is Afoot

The Game is AfootTummies taken care of, we settled in for a session of Monopoly. The weather wasn’t looking too promising and dark clouds were rolling in, so it was great that we had the game to pass time with over a chill-out afternoon. Besides, when you have a room this cushy, why wouldn’t you stay in and make the most of it?

Counting Monopoly moneyIn true-blue tycoon style, counting and receiving money seemed to be what they enjoyed the most about the game. I was just thankful they were well occupied by something that doesn’t involve a screen or tablet.

Waking Up to a Feast

The following morning, we slept in as late as we could while making sure there was enough time left on the clock to hit the buffet breakfast at the restaurant Colony, which is included as part of the Game Night stay package.

ColonyThere was so much variety to pick from that it was a real challenge prioritising stomach space. Cold cuts and cheeses, pastries and breads, an eggs benedict station, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, continental and local selections – decisions, decisions!

The Patisserie, ColonyNot surprisingly, the kids made a beeline for the patisserie section, where there were pancakes and waffles, cakes and Nyonya kuehs. Plus frozen yogurt of different flavours.
