Mofunland: More Fun with Cubes

Mofunland is located at level two, Marina Square. If the name sounds familiar, it is actually a pun on the Chinese name of the cube 魔方 and a play on the words “more fun”. The space was started by memory training expert Wellon Chou.

Parents can choose drop-off play sessions or cubing classes at Mofunland.

You won’t see slides nor ball pits at Mofunland; instead, the playspace is for the brain!

The centre is filled with many games, puzzles and cubes that children can explore and try to solve.

Cubers can settle down at one the centre’s comfortable booths with tables. The various cubes are also accompanied by mats and timers.

Apart from the booths, children can play with their choice of puzzles on the padded ground or on Rubik’s cube-themed cushions.

Cubers gather at Mofunland on weekends to compete with one another. Timers are also used to check the speed of the cubers to simulate real competitions.

In fact, Mofunland organises regular cubing competitions and even has a cubing-themed cruise for enthusiasts to participate in.

Train Your Brain Dexterity Skills

As a parent who generally spectates as my children dabbles in puzzles and cubes, we were introduced to the world of cubing at Mofunland.

Vivan, co-founder of Mofunland, shared with me about over 100 algorithms to solve cubes and how children can be taught how to cube blindfolded!

It may sound a little daunting for those of us who are catching on in age.

Nevertheless, I was assured that adults and the elderly can also pick up the skill easily, but possibly not at the pace of a child whose brain is still malleable.

Cubers at Mofunland can challenge others to speed cubing or solve the many games and puzzles available. Guides are also present to help coach cubers along.

I couldn’t resist trying some of the games and puzzles! After the two-hour session guided by puzzle experts, my 11 year old had learnt more about pyramid cubes, 3×3 and 2×2 plus some number and colour puzzles.

Mofunland: More Fun Coming

We heard that there are exciting plans about more outlets of Mofunland opening soon. The flagship outlet at Marina Square is open from 10 am to 8 pm daily.

Drop-off sessions start from $18 for 2 hours for off-peak hours.
