“Art is a line around your thoughts”
“The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul.” – Klimt
Known for his contemplative visual interpretations of thoughts and ideas, Austrian artist Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) is one of the most influential symbolist figures of the Art Nouveau movement, whose artistic expressions sought to explore the boundaries of the human mind as he believed that artists have the power to touch and evoke deep emotions through transformative art.
We were treated to the intricate ornate patterns and surreal symbolism emblematic of Klimt’s unique style and signature shimmering gilded motifs in his famous works such as “The Tree of Life”, “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I” and “The Kiss” to abstract reflections in “Beethoven Frieze” and “Death and Life” and to his final portrait of “Lady with a Fan”.
The story of Klimt’s life, inspirations, struggles and legacy guided the vivid experience, transporting visitors to Vienna at the turn of the 20th century and into the surreal universe of his artworks.
Take note that the Klimt exhibition has some images of nudity.
Van Gogh Inside: Love Vincent
“The more I think about it, the more I realize there is nothing more artistic than to love others.”
“Because instead of trying to reproduce exactly what I have before my eyes, I use colour more arbitrarily, in order to express myself forcibly.” – van Gogh
Post-Impressionist Dutch artist Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853 – 1890) was a man with much love for – people, the city he lived in, nature and intensity of colour.
The tale of van Gogh’s life, influences, art and loves is traced dramatically through letters between him and his younger brother Theo who was an art dealer. Visitors follow the artist’s journey from his early works of peasants in 19th century Nuenen in Netherlands to “Red Vineyards at Arles” in France, Japanese styles in his “Almond Blossoms” and “The Sea at Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer”, multiple self-portraits, to the luminous brilliance of “The Starry Night” and “Sunflowers”, exploring over 200 of his masterpieces coming alive across the immersive large-scale screens.
Theo as the narrator shared fascinating insights about the painter’s challenges, inspirations, and artistic vision evident in his resplendent colours and bold energetic strokes fluidly capturing interactions between light and hues in landscapes or the cycle of life in cypresses, olive trees or wheat fields of gold, evoking deep human emotion.
Post-exhibition, we stepped jnto a corridor with an interactive wall that recognises emotions to display matching emojis and share messages from the artists, as well as AI-powered art filter photo booths.
