Gustav Klimt: Who Was He?
Born in Baumgarten, near Vienna, Gustav Klimt lived from 1862 to 1918 and was one of the founders of the Vienna Succession, an art movement considered a variation of Art Nouveau.
He became famous as a “painter of women”, with the female form being the subject of many of his artworks. This should give you a heads up of what to expect at an exhibition of his works.
Klimt found success in his Golden Phase from 1901 to 1909. These have become a hallmark of his paintings with gold incorporated into the painting’s compositions.
One of best known works is The Kiss, an oil-on-canvas painting with added gold leaf that was created around 1907 and 1908. The depicts a couple in an embrace, covered in elaborately decorated gold robes.

Thoughts on Gustav Klimt – Falling in Gold
The entire Gustav Klimt – Falling in Gold experience isn’t very large.
Personally, we found that the exhibition could be stronger in terms of the storytelling aspects. To us, many of the rooms provided vignettes of the artist rather than a compelling narrative.
Strangely, we ended at a cafe area and were left wondering if we had missed something. However, it turned out to be the end of the exhibition and we had to exit out via a back doorway, leaving us a little bewildered.
