Chinese New Year is just a month away, planning for reunion meals and festive gatherings is not too early. Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore’s Greenhouse could perhaps be an ideal choice for a cosy gathering to herald the Year of the Snake!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Greenhouse, Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore. As I stepped into the spacious dining area, I was immediately struck by the nature-inspired atmosphere and the enticing aromas in the air.

Greenhouse embraces a nature-inspired design

Stay true to its name, Greenhouse embraces a nature-inspired design, blending modern elegance with organic elements. Wooden accents and living plant add warmth and texture, creating a serene atmosphere that contrasts pleasantly with the bustling open kitchen. The little bean was particularly curious about the chefs in action and the effort that they put into creating every dish.

Festive Buffet and Seasonal Offerings at Greenhouse

To welcome the year of the Snake, Cantonese Master Chef, Chef Chan prepared an array of authentic Cantonese dishes that showcased traditional flavours and innovative twists. His festive buffet menu featured a mix of classic favourites and new creations, all designed to bring good fortune and prosperity for the Lunar New Year.

No Lunar New Year is complete without Yu Sheng and the little bean had fun tossing the colorful vegetables in the air.

Sake Tomato Baby Abalone

Moving on to the main spread, we started off with the Sake Tomato Baby Abalone. The sweetness of the abalone was accentuated by the floral notes from the sake, creating a delightful harmony of flavours. The tomato added a subtle tanginess that balanced the dish.

traditional Chinese Seafood Treasure Pot

Staying true to his Cantonese roots, Chef Chan and his team prepared a traditional Chinese Seafood Treasure Pot (also known as “Poon Choi” 盆菜 in Cantonese) which was packed with delicacies such as abalone, sea cucumber, scallops, mushrooms, beancurd skin, and other ingredients.

Every component came together while maintaining their individual characteristics, and one could really taste the heart that went into this dish.

Hong Kong-inspired Creations

Chef Chan’s Typhoon Shelter Stir Fried Soft Shell Crab stood out as a crispy counterpoint to the Seafood Treasure Pot.

This Hong Kong-inspired creation paid homage to Chef Chan’s culinary background with its bold and distinctive flavour profile. Each bite offered a balance of spicy, savoury, and aromatic notes, with the fragrant garlic and chilli elevating the crab’s delicate flavour without overpowering it.

Stir Fried Glutinous Rice

The bean’s favourite dish from the buffet line was the Stir Fried Glutinous Rice. This hearty dish showcased a delightful mix of textures and flavours, with the sticky rice providing a comforting base for the Chinese sausage, mushroom, dried shrimp, peanuts and shredded egg.

The combination of ingredients created a satisfying blend of umami and subtle sweetness, making it easy to see why it was the bean’s top choice. He also enjoyed the other proteins that were available from the buffet spread, such as the Smoked Chicken with Jasmine Tea and Steamed Grouper with Flower Garlic.

cookie selection

Ending our meal on a sweet note, we were treated to Aiyu Jelly with Calamansi and Deep Fried Nian Gao. The aiyu jelly was refreshing and light, which served as a palate-cleanser to finish the meal. The cookie selection proved irresistible to the little bean, who indulged in the Milo Chocolate Cookies and Sea Salt Chocolate Chips.

These sweet treats became the highlight of his night, with the little bean repeatedly asking for more.

The combination of traditional Chinese desserts with more Western-style treats demonstrates a thoughtful approach to the dessert menu, offering something for everyone and ending the meal on a high.

festive cocktails and mocktails curated from Legends Bar

For the adults, there are also specially curated festive cocktails and mocktails curated from Legends Bar to pair with your meal. I personally enjoyed the Golden Fortune Spritz, which was a blend of Baijiu, Jasmine Tea, Tonic Water with a Lemon Twist.

Overall, my experience at Greenhouse was thoroughly enjoyable. The combination of excellent food, inviting ambience, and family-friendly atmosphere makes it a top choice for both casual family dinners and special occasions this Lunar New Year.
