Sky22 at Courtyard by Marriott Singapore Novena: A Hidden Gem in Plain Sight
“It’s very convenient. Just come up from Novena MRT station via Exit B, look for Toast Box and go through the glass doors. Walk through the lobby of a medical centre, turn right and you’ll find the hotel.” This was the direction I gave to my companion for a fully sheltered route to the hotel, alongside further details.
My companion still could not locate the hotel and had to resort to Google Map’s directions for an unsheltered route around the exterior façade of the building.
Perhaps the road navigation confusion due to the ongoing constructions and distractions from the bustle of the area were the reasons that led to this hidden gem being easily overlooked.
It was certainly a contrast when I stepped foot into the restaurant, and was greeted by a stunning view of the city skyline, backed by the brightly lit space with a comfortable and calm ambience.
Weekday Night À La Carte Menu
The refreshed menu provides a range of Asian cuisines with fusion interpretations. Rather than chasing novelty for its own sake, the menu appears designed for easy, convivial dining. Local favourites sit comfortably alongside Korean-inspired favourites like the Tofu & Mushroom Bibimbap (S$25) and Mediterranean-inspired dishes such as the Grilled Octopus (S$28), making Sky22 an accessible choice for family meals, casual business dinners and weeknight gatherings.
Here are highlights that we recommend:
The Chicken Consommé Morel (S$15) offered a warm and soothing start to the meal, with its clear broth enriched with cordyceps flowers, shiitake, snow fungus and goji berries. As someone at Sky22 for the first time, we were not sure what to expect, and this comforting soup set the tone for the evening that helped us to wind down after a long day.
The Watercress Beef Salad (S$18) and Cucumber Wakame Salad (S$16) were unexpectedly scrumptious, given that we were anticipating a light entry into the meal. The Watercress Beef Salad came in a refreshing dressing of sesame soy vinaigrette with laksa leaf. The latter gave a delightful crunch that had layered flavours that express themselves more distinctly with each bite.
The Liquorice-Smoked Wagyu Beef Brisket (S$30) was braised with liquorice and Sarawak peppercorns. It was an easy dish to melt into, with its tender meat tinged with a light sweetness.
If you are a seafood lover, you might find yourself drawn to the Seared Barramundi Assam Pedas (S$28). The delicate meat texture was paired with a spicy-sour Malaysian-style purée and char-grilled vegetables accented with ginger flower.
The Pandan Panna Cotta (S$12) had subtle chrysanthemum overtones, infused with pandan based flavours.
The Chocolate Nama (S$14) was a rich finale to the meal, and arguably an indulgent choice. It delivered melt-in-the-mouth decadence with a hint of brandy, that gave it surprising depth.
The playful interpretation of local flavours and thoughtful flourishes made the dishes appealing to groups looking for sweet and fun finishes to the meal.
