Farmart Centre reminds us of a village community. And if it is a village, the Farmart Animal Corner is where all the children of the village gather to have fun.
Located amongst the farmlands of Sungei Tengah, most of Farmart Centre is rather sleepy. The shops look half-closed and for the most part, the atmosphere is laidback. However, on weekends especially, one corner of Farmart buzzes with activity.
To get there, head past the open-air food centre, down the stairs and around the prawning pool and you will arrive at the Farmart Animal Corner.
Come See the Animals
This rustic shed is where you can interact with small animals and enjoy the simple pleasure of feeding them. On entering the animal corner, you will see various sections where the animals are kept.

You are welcome to walk around and view them but the best way to interact with the animals is to buy some food to feed to them.
For $5, you get leafy green vegetables, carrots, sunflower seeds and pellets. The leafy greens can be fed to goats, carrots to the small mammals such as rabbits, sunflower seeds to birds and the pellets are for aquatic animals.
The animals found at the Farmart Animal Corner include
gruffly-looking goats,
rambunctious rabbits, hamsters, gerbils and guinea pigs,
beautiful birds,
bleaching bullfrogs and timid terrapins,
and some very hungry catfish.
You can also pose with fiberglass cows around the compound.
Three creatures at Farmart Animal Corner that people often overlook are the crab, lobster and guppies. These are kept in tanks beside the washing basin area.
Take note that Farmart Animal Corner is not a petting zoo as the animals are kept in cages or enclosures. Nonetheless, it is a great spot for kids to have some fun interacting with animals. Just be sure they wash their hands after!
