Editor’s Blog: What Mothers Really Want

A group of mothers recently got together to share their Mother’s Day wishlist:

  • Spa and massage
  • Manicures and pedicures
  • High tea with friends
  • A nice meal at an adult restaurant
  • Shopping at the ladies department (instead of the kids) and with no complaints from hubby…

We all know Mother’s Day celebrates the love of mothers. It is a love that starts the day baby arrives.

It matters not that the newly-anointed mommy has just gone through an 18-hour labour… when baby demands to be fed, mommy gladly wakes up with a sleepy smile to become a human milk bottle while hubby snores away claiming, “I don’t have the right equipment” as an excuse.

A few years later, when baby goes off to kindergarten, a mother’s love shines in the dark of the morning when she wakes up, before the newspaper even hits the door, to prepare a Mickey Mouse bento box for snack time.

All year round, mothers tirelessly and selflessly put their children first, placing their own needs and wants in the backseat. Therefore, it is perfectly understandable that once a year, on Mother’s Day, mothers may wish for some time to do the things they enjoy – as the people they were before they became Mummy.

So for this Mother’s Day, how about celebrating it slightly differently?

Yes, have a special meal together as a family, but why not let mommies have a day off from the family to recharge as well? It is not as if mothers will love their children any less just because they want some time to pamper and be themselves on Mother’s Day.

In fact, it is next to impossible for mommies to ever love their children less. Such is the miracle of a mother’s love and the very reason we celebrate Mother’s Day.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Have a great Little Day Out!
