A new space for people to gather and for kids to have some fun, the eco-playground at Tanjong Pagar Community Green is a welcoming spot in the city.

Many may simply walk by the Discover Tanjong Pagar Community Green as they make their way between Tanjong Pagar Road and Peck Seah Street and Tanjong Pagar MRT station. However, now there is reason to linger as a new eco-playground has been set up at the green space.

The Discover Tanjong Pagar Community Green eco-playground is a partnership between Discover Tanjong Pagar, a group consisting of property owners, and furniture company Roger&Sons.

The children’s playground is constructed out of repurposed tree logs, similar to those found at nature playgardens around Singapore. The various pieces that make up the ground have a relatively random layout, leaving lots of empty spaces for visitors to run and play.

A series of logs of differentiated height

A series of logs of differentiated heights serve as mini obstacles which kids can climb up and down, challenging their balance and dexterity.

small stepping stones

Log pieces embedded into the ground ignite the imagination to play a game of “the floor is lava”. There are also small stepping stones on the ground that are numbered.

wooden window frame

A construction of wooden window frames create a screen wall which kids can also use to fuel their play.

hexagonal platforms

Adults can enjoy the seating at log benches or the hexagonal benches. These also provide areas for visitors to settle down for a chat, especially in the evenings when it is cooler, since Discover Tanjong Pagar Community Green is still lacking shade around the playground area.

The Discover Tanjong Pagar Community Green eco-playground came about after engagement with the community and children on how they would like to play.

The space is pet-friendly too.

It is a nice effort at place-making, creating a family-friendly space which will draw in families, especially, in our opinion, on the weekends.
