Even when making our way to Dancing Crab at VivoCity, we had a lovely time admiring the evening view of Sentosa and the waters around VivoCity. The restaurant was located at Level 3, overlooking the Keppel Harbour and seemed to me like the perfect setting for a night out with friends or family to enjoy a seafood feast.

The restaurant itself was comfortable and spacious. The atmosphere was friendly and fun with music and friendly waiters making us very welcome. Ask for a table facing the harbour for a different and more private setting.

Anchovy Kale Salad

First up was the Anchovy Kale Salad. It was finely chopped kale seasoned with anchovy and topped generously with shaved parmesan cheese. It was savoury and rich from the anchovy and parmesan, yet still refreshing from the kale and the light dressing. The dish was very classic and done well.

One of the Highlights of Dancing Crab – Well Cooked Seafood

Pan-Seared Sea Bass with Semi-Dried Tomato and Pickled Pearl Onion Sauce

Another of their new creations was the Pan-Seared Sea Bass with Semi-Dried Tomato and Pickled Pearl Onion Sauce. The sea bass was pan-seared to perfection, with crispy skin and moist, flaky and tender meat.

Sea bass was such a good choice for this dish as the meat picked up all the extra flavours from the seasoning, tomatoes and onions. The crispy deep-fried shallots served with it were especially delicious. There was definitely quite a bit of oil involved throughout the dish, but it was so flavourful and satisfying that none of us minded it at all. It was the first dish we completely cleared.

Refreshing Lemonade – Any Choice is a Good Choice

Refreshing Lemonade – Any Choice is a Good Choice

To go along with the dishes, we had a selection of their freshly made lemonades — Fizzy Lemonade, Strawberry Lemonade, Ultraviolet Berry Lemonade and Pink Thyme Lemonade. They were all refreshingly delicious and went really well with the seafood, especially with some of the richer and more buttery dishes.

Ehh? Cacio e Pepe at Dancing Crab?

Crab Cacio e Pepe,

Next, we tried the Crab Cacio e Pepe, which was a surprisingly good take on the classic cacio e pepe. The sauce was cheesy and peppery, and the generous chunks of crab meat added a lovely seafood umami-ness without taking away from the original flavours of the dish. It still tasted recognisably like cacio e pepe, just with an extra layer of crabby goodness.

Did Cioppino Seafood Stew the show?

Cioppino Seafood Stew

The Cioppino Seafood Stew was a nice tomato-based stew with seafood, served with a choice of brioche bun or rice. It was a decent bowl of stew, although compared to the other more seafood-forward and richer dishes we had, this one seemed to lack a little of the x-factor.

Multi-hit Combo coming up!

Live Crab Combo which brought us one crab, 350g of prawns, 500g of Hamaguri clams, four half-shell scallops, corn and Arabiki chicken sausages

The star of the show was definitely the Live Crab Combo which brought us one crab, 350g of prawns, 500g of Hamaguri clams, four half-shell scallops, corn and Arabiki chicken sausages. We went with the Zesty Garlic Butter sauce, which is one of my favourite ways to have seafood.

Every type of seafood tasted fresh, with that natural sweetness and saltiness that you want from good quality seafood. The sauce tied everything together beautifully, and we just kept going until everything in the dish or on the table (if you prefer) was completely cleared.

Say Yay to the Beignets!

freshly made and fried beignets

We ended the meal with their lovely, freshly made and fried beignets. They were light and pillowy on the inside, with a nice crisp exterior. After such a rich seafood feast, the beignets were a nice change of pace and the perfect way to end the meal on a sweet note.

Our Experience at Dancing Crab VivoCity

Our Experience at Dancing Crab VivoCity

Overall, Dancing Crab VivoCity was a really enjoyable meal. We had good seafood, food with generous portions and a fun setting overlooking the sea. The setting, food and drinks made conversation flow naturally and it was an enjoyable time there. Definitely a place I’d be happy to return to, especially when the craving for a messy, indulgent seafood feast hits.
