The year has just begun and the Chinatown Chinese New Year celebrations 2020 are already all set to get underway! This historic district in the heart of Singapore is all dressed up and ready for the festivities and Chinese New Year light up.

Want to join in the Chinatown Chinese New Year celebrations 2020? Here are six things to do in Singapore’s Chinatown to welcome in the year of the Rat!

1. Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations 2020 Official Light Up and Opening Ceremony

When: 4 Jan 2020, 6 pm to 10 pm
Where: New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Sen Street

Watch as local and overseas performing troupes take to the stage along New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Sen Street on Saturday, 4 January 2020, evening. The official light up and opening ceremony will kick off the festive celebrations in Chinatown. Other highlights include firecrackers and fireworks displays!

2. Chinatown Street Light Up 2020

When: 4 Jan to 22 Feb 2020, 7 pm to midnight
Where: Eu Tong Sen Street, New Bridge Road, South Bridge Road and Garden Bridge

Chinatown Street Light Up 2020No worries if you miss the official light up and opening ceremony. You are still welcomed to enjoy the lights around Singapore’s Chinatown. This year, the centrepiece of the Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations 2020 light up features eight pink rats, all dressed up in their Chinese New Year best! Behind them are the rest of the zodiac animals. Lighting up the streets are lanterns of gold coins, flowers and auspicious greetings. On Chinese New Year Eve, the lights will be lit till 6 am.

3. Festive Street Bazaar

When: 3 to 24 Jan 2020, 6 pm to 10.30 pm
Where: Pagoda Street, Smith Street, Sago Street, Temple Street and Trengganu Street

Festive Street BazaarSoak in the atmosphere at the Street Bazaar. Go on the hunt for Chinese New Year goodies, decorations and other essentials for the festive holiday.

4. 13th International Lion Dance Competition

When: 11 & 12 Jan 2020, 6 pm till late
Where: Kreta Ayer People’s Theatre

Feel the exciting pulse of drums beating while lions show off their prowess at the 13th International Lion Dance Competition. There will be more than 10 top lion dance troupes from Singapore and the Asia Pacific competing for top honours. Purchase your tickets from Kreta Ayer Community Club or call 62223597.

5. Chingay 2020 @ Chinatown

When: 2 Feb 2020, 6 pm to 10 pm
Where: New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Sen Street

Chingay 2020 Parade: Look Forward To A Traditional Acts & Contemporary PerformancesStreet performers from both Singapore and overseas will make an appearance at Chinatown, Singapore as part of Chingay 2020 to bring the Chinese New Year Celebrations to a close. Don’t miss out the float parade with nine colourfully decorated floats.

6. Heritage & Food Trail

When: 5, 11, 12, 18 & 19 January 2020, 2.30 pm to 5 pm
Where: Chinatown

Go on a walk around Chinatown with a guide who will explain the historical significance of Chinatown. The trail also includes a chance to enjoy authentic Cantonese cuisine at the Chinatown Complex Food Centre. Tickets can be purchased at the Kreta Ayer Community Centre or online.
