Visit the Malay Heritage Centre and be a part of this year’s Fiesta Hari Raya Open House 2019, taking place from 21 to 23 June 2019.

Located within the historic Kampong Gelam district, the Malay Heritage Centre provides wonderful cultural exposure and opportunities for visitors of all ages to learn more about the community.

An annual celebration, this year’s Fiesta Hari Raya Open House celebrations coincide with the June holiday season and include an exciting line-up of activities.

Put together a Hari Raya greeting card for a friend, learn to make a ketupat, watch a live performance or lepak outdoors as you catch a classic movie with your loved ones.

There’s sure to be something for young and old!

Here are some programme highlights the whole family can look forward to at this year’s Fiesta Hari Raya Open House 2019.

Heritage Hunt @ MHC: Little Hajj Travellers

Malay boy with hands on headOn 22 and 23 June 2019, embark on a fun heritage hunt around the Kampong Gelam area.

Organised by the Malay Heritage Centre, the Little Hajj Travellers Heritage Hunt invites participants to role-play as pilgrims preparing for the Hajj journey on a steamship.

Suitable for children ages of 6 to 12, your little pilgrims will receive an exclusive Heritage Hunt Survival Backpack.

Armed with a shopping list, participants must head out and complete various tasks to get supplies for the long journey ahead.

Along the way, they’ll learn about the Hajj and the significance of Kampong Gelam as a port town to those going on the pilgrimage.

Storytime! – Hafiz & the Raya Recipes

Gather with friends and family in the Anjung Gallery of the Malay Heritage Centre on Saturday 22 June to listen to the adventures of Hafiz and his siblings as they get ready for Hari Raya!

People weaving leaves Make your way to Courtyard 2 at the Malay Heritage Centre and get busy crafting.

Customise your very own festive greeting card to wish your friends Selamat Hari Raya Adilfitri, or learn a traditional skill of weaving together banana leaves to make a ketupat.

Singapura Tales: A Damar Kurung Lantern Light-Up

LanternsThis outdoor light installation is inspired by the various myths and legends related to the history of Singapura.

On exhibition from 21 June to 28 July, the light installation draws from the concept of the damar kurung, a traditional craft with origins from East Java (Indonesia) with the illustrations of the lanterns depicting Singapura Tales of historical figures such as Radin Mas and Sang Nila Utama.
