With a menu of 18 ice cream flavours, Ben & Jerry’s first Flagship Scoop Shop has opened on 7 April 2015 at 313 Somerset Discovery Walk.
Serving up more than just ice cream, the Flagship Scoop Shop will also be Ben & Jerry’s Community Action Hub where the company hopes to use fun and ice cream to inspire social involvement and progress locally.
Ice Cream with Benefits
It will play host to a Benefit Tuesday Night programme on a Tuesday every month, allowing various local welfare organisations to engage the public on their causes. Ben & Jerry’s will donate 20% of sales during the 7 pm to 9 pm event to featured social mission partners.
Ben & Jerry will also be adopting values-led sourcing locally with bakery items like brownies and cookies, and herbs like mint. Suppliers such as SCORE Bakery works to rehabilitate inmates through skills training, and social enterprise Edible Garden City is a group of urban farmers championing the Grow Your Own Food movement in land-scarce and import-dependent Singapore.
Free Cone Day 2015
Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day 2015 is also coming up on Tuesday, 14 April 2015. Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day brings people together for a fun and funky-filled day of ice cream as a way of saying ‘thank you’ to fans.
Diverse-City Trails
Ben & Jerry’s has also partnered The Thought Collective to launch the Diverse-City Trails, designed to create a shared experience among participants and spark two-way discussions around the issues Singapore faces, especially around social cohesion, which is vital to Singapore’s progress.
Running till 16 September 2015, three trails are on offer. These are Little India Trail – The heart of the living community (every Friday from 6 pm to 7.30 pm), Toa Payoh Trail – A beginner’s guide to social innovation (every Saturday from 10 am to 11.30 am) and the Jalan Besar Trail – Embracing the possibility for unexpected change (every Sunday from 10.30 am to 12 pm).
