This year, the National Day Istana Open House 2020 is going virtual and everyone is invited. Hosted by President Halimah Yacob, the virtual Open House will be held via livestream on Sunday 2 August from 10 am to 11 am.
Around 150 beneficiaries of the President’s Challenge and The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fun will be joining the National Day Istana Open House 2020.
Highlights of the Virtual National Day Istana Open House 2020
Following a welcome by President Halimah, a presenter from The Straits Times will take viewers on a virtual tour around the Istana grounds.
The interactive tour will cover green spaces and locations which are rarely seen by the public. Highlights of the tour include the Istana’s 14.5-metre-deep well and air raid shelter, which is known as the “bunker”. Both of these sights are usually off limits to the public.
Asian Civilisations Museum will also be providing a sneak preview of its virtual galleries and National Day programme.
Another interesting experience that awaits viewers of the virtual Istana Open House is “Zoom into History”. Presented by the National Museum of Singapore, this segment will feature a digital museum object interacting with viewers at the virtual open house.
In celebration of Singapore’s 55th National Day, there will also be a showcase of the “Our Heart for Singapore” project. This initiative reflects on Singaporeans’ hopes, aims and aspirations for the nation and aims to inspire action for meaningful causes.
While we may not be able to pay a physical visit to the Istana grounds and Main Building for National Day 2020, we can look forward to the virtual National Day Istana Open House 2020, a good chance to “visit” the Istana from home.
