Free SLA25 Rediscovery Trail: Explore 25 State Properties Around Singapore
The SLA25 Rediscovery Trail makes use of a web app that is accessible via your mobile phone browser – no need to download an additional app. Using the web app, you can check in at each of these properties and answer a simple question about the location.
BILINGUAL PRESCHOOL & STUDENT CARE: Nurture Kids to Succeed in Heart & Mind
NEW & EXPECTANT PARENTS: Discover Gifts & Offers
Locations can be sorted by geographical region or by interest. There is a filter to sort by “Families” for family-friendly stops.
The State properties featured on the trail include heritage and colonial buildings, lifestyle and dining clusters, sports and recreational sites, and creative and social hubs.
For every three properties that you visit, you will get to redeem a collectible memento.
We decided to embark on the SLA25 Rediscovery Trail to experience it for ourselves.
Chip Bee Gardens: From Military Housing to Charming Neighbourhood
Our first stop was Chip Bee Gardens. This quiet enclave is located opposite the bustling Holland Village.
An SLA25 Rediscovery Trail marker, in the form of a stack of cubes, greeted us along Tamra Warna at Chip Bee Gardens.
We learned how the estate once belonged to the British Military and how it has transformed into a quaint neighbourhood with a mix of sleepy houses and characterful businesses. The marker even pointed out characteristics of the neighbourhood that could be easily overlooked – like the colourful murals that decorate Block 43 Jalan Mega Saga.
Checking in was quite straightforward. We had earlier registered for an account on the web app and all that was needed was a mobile phone number.
At the location, we just logged in again using the mobile number and clicked on the check in button. The geo-location feature automatically verified our location. This was
followed by a simple multiple choice quiz question.
Lastly, there was a prompt where there was an option to provide any feedback or suggestions for the location.
From this last prompt, we were taken back to the web app’s Home Screen. However, it would have been better if we were sent back to the Chip Bee Garden page instead because there was still another section to explore – the promotions page!
At each location, there are various discounts and promotions being offered by merchants at the locations. At Chip Bee Gardens, these ranged from dining discounts at Baker & Cook to shopping discounts at Redman.
Ridout Garden: A Touch of Japan
The next spot that we visited was Ridout Garden. If you have ever wondered why it has a Japanese garden theme, the SLA25 Rediscovery Trail information marker will shed some light on the reason.
We also enjoyed walking along the bridge and watching the terrapins and fish in the pond.
195 Pearl’s Hill Terrace: Art Enclave
The third location on our trail was 195 Pearl’s Hill Terrace in Chinatown. This is probably one of the few places left where you can find the Straits Settlements crest displayed.
195 Pearl’s Hill Terrace houses an eclectic mix of tenants, and it feels like an authentic arts enclave. Thanks to the SLA25 Rediscovery Trail, we found ourselves exploring its corridors and the small businesses tucked away along its hallways.
Redeem a Memento
After visiting and answering the questions at three locations, we unlocked the ability to redeem a special memento.
The collectible is a wooden postcard with an additional colour magnet. There are eight different designs to choose from, and these feature places etched into wooden postcards. Each design is limited to 200 pieces and available while stocks last. You will have to head down to designated locations to redeem the design of your choice.
Here’s where you can redeem the different designs:
