Now into its 12th year in Singapore, the books collected under the South Africa Mobile Library Book Donation Project will be shipped out from Singapore to Durban, South Africa at the end of December 2019 by Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd., which provides free transportation for all the books collected by Sony globally.

South Africa Mobile Library ProjectThe books will eventually be used by more than 50 mobile libraries to reach approximately 850 schools across South Africa.

Ever since Sony in Singapore started this annual Corporate Social Responsibility project in 2008, over 127,000 books have been donated.

Singapore Schools Get Involved

South Africa Mobile Library Book Donation ProjectThe South Africa Mobile Library Book Donation Project also saw the participation of local Singapore schools. Other than collecting books, participating schools also assisted with sorting, tagging and packing the donated books.

Students added the personal touch by creating bookmarks with inspirational messages which were then inserted into the books for the South African children. This serves as a bridge between the students in Singapore and those in South Africa.

The various Singapore schools that participated in the 2019 project were:

Anglo-Chinese School (Primary)
Bukit Timah Primary School
CHIJ Our Lady Queen of Peace
Chua Chu Kang Primary School
Dunman High School
Global Indian International School, East Coast Campus
Nan Hua Primary School
Nanyang Primary School
Naval Base Primary School
Raffles Girls’ Primary School
River Valley Primary School
Rosyth School
Yio Chu Kang Secondary School
