With just a 60 minute ferry ride from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, a relaxing resort getaway is quite literally closer to home.
With activities to keep the little ones entertained, parents can slow down and unwind too. From sports and family friendly activities to spa, dining and leisure facilities, everything is conveniently available in one place for a more relaxed holiday.
Family Review of Mövenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon
We recently had the opportunity to experience Mövenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon, one of Bintan’s newest resort additions. Join us as we take a closer look at the resort, its facilities and our experience, and discover what a stay here could look like for your next family getaway!
Arrival at Mövenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon
Once you clear customs, you’ll spot a dedicated holding room for Mövenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon, where the guest relations team will guide you to your land transfer.
We were pleasantly surprised by how spacious and comfortable the seats were, and it can be raised to let you stretch out your legs! It felt surprisingly luxurious for a transfer and was a lovely touch to kick-start our holiday even before arriving at the resort.
Room – Deluxe Ocean View Room
We stayed in a Deluxe Ocean View Room, which came with two single beds and a rollaway bed. With two primary school aged children, I would personally recommend opting for two connecting rooms if available, for a more comfortable and restful night. Honestly, this arrangement felt squeezy and uncomfortable for a family of four.
For families with smaller built children, a king bed with a rollaway bed could also be a more spacious arrangement.
The room also features an ocean facing balcony, offering a pleasant spot to unwind. One particularly thoughtful touch was the multi-point hanging rack, which came in handy for air drying our damp swimwear after a day by the pool.
The bathroom was brightly lit and functional. We had all we needed – but we did not need to stay in our room much!
Recreation Village – Where We Spent Most of Our Time
There is a Recreation Village conveniently located across the lobby. It’s an interesting place where you find activities suitable for just adults, just kids, or as a family. Here’s how!
Activities As a Family
There are two pools here. The first is a 0.4m deep wading pool with a striking yellow spiral slide that’s a big hit with kids. A word of caution though: older tweens who are taller should remember to lie flat while sliding down to avoid hitting their heads against the exit. ) Unfortunately my 11yo learnt this the hard way, with a bump on her forehead.
The second is a 1.2m deep pool equipped with big floats, balls and hoops, where families can spend quality time playing and making memories together.
If you fancy some thrill in water, you can rent the motorised underwater scooter activities at the reception counter. Price ranging from IDR20,000-40,000nett / 30mins.
Right behind the pool sits a sizable playground with swings, trampolines, slides and various playground feature.
Beyond the pools, there’s also a splash pad for toddlers, located next to an artificial beach.
Families can also rent bicycles, with options ranging from tandem bikes to child-friendly models in different sizes, including four wheelers. There’s something for almost every age and size!
Washing up is easy too, with the shower rooms fully equipped with shampoo, shower gel and hair dryers alongside the towels provided. We didn’t even need to head back to our room before diving straight into the next activity!
Just for Kids – Kids Club
Suitable for toddlers to lower primary school kids, The Little Bird’s Club (kids club) offers plenty to keep the little ones entertained.

The kids’ club features a cosy reading corner stocked with books, pretend play stations, a movie room, a diaper changing area, a nap and rest room, water refill station, as well as ample sofa seating for accompanying adults to relax.
Next to the resting area sits a cosy indoor playground with slides, ball pit and climbing features.
There’s also a spacious outdoor playground with another ball pit, perfect for letting the kids enjoy some fresh air and soak up a little vitamin D.
Various crafts and interactive activities are available throughout the day too. We caught a glimpse of Batik Painting while we were there.
One tip: remember to bring anti-slip socks! If you forget, don’t worry, they’re available for purchase at the club.
The Little Birds Club offers a range of paid and free activities for families and kids, running daily from 9am – 6pm with the programme changing from day to day. Paid activities are priced at IDR20,000 to IDR25,000nett with options like cookie making, tote bag painting and wooden mask painting etc.
There is also a good selection of complimentary activities for kids including leaf painting, sponge stamp and ocean treasures where the kids will head down to the beach to collect seashells.
The Little Bird’s Club is available from 9am – 6pm daily. Age 4 and below requires an accompanying adult at all times. Age 5 and above is eligible for drop off.
Next door to the kids’ club is a free-to-use games room, perfect for older kids who may have outgrown the little ones’ play areas. Here, you’ll find board games such as UNO, Monopoly and Jenga, along with a game console and classic arcade favourites like air hockey and basketball shootout.
Just Adults – Wellness Classes
There are different wellness classes available daily, including aerial sound baths and mat Pilates. We also spotted a reformer Pilates room during our stay.
Reformer pilates classes are chargeable at IDR30,000nett.
There are 2 complimentary wellness sessions every morning at 8am and 10.30am. Afternoon sessions are chargeable at IDR250,000 to IDR300,000nett. Beyond the activities we tried, the wellness programme also includes options such as aerial yoga and evening calm mediation.
For families travelling with elderly members or in larger groups, there are even automated Mahjong tables available for some indoor entertainment!
Sports Options
Active mums and dads can also make use of the gym, which is open throughout the day. For those looking for more ways to stay active, there are two billiard/pool tables, a foosball table, and multiple indoor and outdoor table tennis stations scattered around the village. You can also find 2 tennis courts, 3 pickleball courts, and 2 padel courts further down.
My primary schoolers had a great time joining us for the different sports activities here too!
And if the kids aren’t keen on heading out of the village for meals, there are dining options available within the village as well, making it convenient for families to enjoy everything without having to travel far. We recommend having meals here at the Recreation Village Sports Lounge.
One thoughtful detail worth mentioning is the kids’ toilet located just behind the pool tables. It has been specially designed with little ones in mind, featuring child-sized toilet bowls and adorable low taps shaped like elephants. It’s these little touches that make the resort feel especially welcoming for families with young children.
Soñada Beach Club
Beaches and the sea never fail to revitalise us, so we were excited to visit Soñada Beach Club, which claims to be Bintan’s largest two-storey beach club.
Here, we got to try transparent boat kayaking and stand up paddling at sea, or rather, sit down paddling for my 11-year-old! While we were there, we spotted other families having fun with beach volleyball and badminton too. Life jackets are provided for the sea sports, but do bring along your kids’ personal flotation devices if they would like to play in the pool.
These non-motorised watersports are chargeable from IDR50,000 to IDR150,000nett / 30mins.
Basic land sports like beach volleyball and badminton are complimentary for staying guests. We also enjoyed some simple soccer games on the beach free of charge.
There are plenty of daybeds around the beach club, making it easy for families to move between the beach and pool without having to worry about finding a spot to settle down.
The shower facilities are clean and well equipped too, with lockers, full length mirrors and fully equipped bathrooms available for guests.
We also had our sunset dinner at the beach club, enjoying pizzas and pastas as the sun went down.
Halfway through dinner, we witnessed how the bright and sunny beach club transforms into a lively venue after dark, complete with groovy music and colourful lights. The kids were fascinated, and it was a fun way for them to get a little taste of nightlife in a safe setting with me.
Shantara Spa & Wellness
What’s resort life without a little spa time, right? I was welcomed into a brightly lit treatment room overlooking a fountain, which was transformed into a dimly lit, soothing space once the restorative massage began.
The room comes complete with a shower area and a heated toilet seat featuring a Japanese inspired automated toilet.
I opted for the 90 minute Swedish massage and thoroughly enjoyed the session with Herya, a highly skilled and attentive masseuse.
Ocean Pool
There are so many pools around the resort that I couldn’t possibly visit them all during our short stay. The Ocean Pool was one of the most convenient, located right in front of the breakfast area, so there was no need to hop on a buggy to get there.
Dining options at Mövenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon
Port 19
This is where we get to enjoy our breakfast buffet spread. There is a dedicated kids buffet station with low tables and kids friendly food. It doubles up as an all day dining option.
While holidaying in a resort, kids typically skip having balanced meals, this trip is no exception. If your kids love pizzas and burgers, they will enjoy the indulgence of them here. Personally, I wish the selection could be wider for mains, with more local food options.
Yokatta Izakaya & Bar
Located a few steps away from Port 19, Yokatta serves Japanese food ranging from fresh Sushi, comforting Udon, to a selection of sake.
Klon-Tong
Klon-Tong is a laid-back lounge where guests can pick up Mövenpick’s signature ice creams, coffee, snacks, freshly baked pastries, and even essentials like sanitary pads and diapers.
The space also features comfortable seating areas and a super-long foosball table, making it a fun spot for guests to unwind, mingle, and break the ice over a game or two.
Chocolate Hour
Mövenpick’s signature Chocolate Hour takes place daily at 3pm local time. You can definitely find excited kids gathering around the chocolate fondue fountain, ready to dip and indulge in an assortment of sweet treats.
The Chocolate Hour is usually held at Klon-Thong, but during peak travel periods, it moves to a small ballroom nearby to accommodate the larger crowds. The kids are likely to be easily pleased here. For adults, though, I’d suggest keeping expectations in check.
For dining options, we recommend eating at the Recreation Village and Yokatta.
We also noticed a small floral shop near the ballroom, where fresh bouquets of flowers can be bought to surprise your loved ones.
Golfing Option
If golf is your thing, you’ll be thrilled to know that the resort has direct access to the two 18-hole courses in Bintan Lagoon International Golf.
Getting around
You can either take a leisurely stroll to wherever you’re heading to, or hop on the resort buggy if you have a questionable sense of direction like I do! Catch this pretty red buggy if you’re lucky. Just let the friendly staff know where you’re going, and they’ll be happy to arrange one for you.
Mode of Payment
For a smooth and fuss-free check-out, we used our credit cards for on-the-spot payments throughout our stay. Alternatively, you can simply charge your expenses to your room and settle everything together at check-out.
Our Thoughts on Mövenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon
There are times when a resort retreat feels far more appealing than navigating a packed city itinerary. After all, children don’t always share our enthusiasm for shopping and sightseeing. Ask them about their favourite holiday memories, and the answers are often delightfully uncomplicated: “The pool!” or “The ice cream!” That is perhaps the charm of a resort holiday, where these simple pleasures are often all within reach.
