Head to the Basement level of the National Museum of Singapore and you’ll find a pop-up mama shop from now till 20 March 2021.
The mama shop is part of National Museum of Singapore’s activities for the March school holidays. It is a nod to the mama shops commonly found at HDB void decks. Once ubiquitous, there are fewer and fewer of these general provision shops nowadays.
The mama shop at National Museum of Singapore is a tie-in with the Home, Truly: Growing Up with Singapore, 1950s to the Present exhibition that is taking place at the Basement Gallery.

The mama shop is not just a static exhibit. You can actually purchase things from the store.
And this mama shop is extremely well stocked.
Choose from snacks like munchies and crisps to traditional biscuits in metal tins.
How about sweets like Hacks, Polo mints or the popping Magic Pops candy? Or the golden-wrapped Ling Mon Tablets and red-coloured Haw Flakes. These will be a delight for both kids and parents.
There are old school toys available for sale too. Pick up a yoyo, a chapteh, or a parachuting soldier from the mama store’s toy corner.
