Tiong Bahru is often associated with good food and its unique urband art deco style architecture. However, what happens when you want to get some fresh air while in the neighbourhood? That’s where Kim Pong Park, and for kids the Kim Pong Park nature playgarden, comes in.

Kim Pong Park in Tiong Bahru

Kim Pong Park is a little parcel of land at the western end of Tiong Bahru, bounded by Kim Pong Road, Yong Siak Street, Kim Tian Place and Kim Tian Road. It can also be found close to the famous Horseshoe Block where the old pre-WWII era air raid shelter is located.

The park itself is nothing remarkable. It is an open space with pathways that are laid out like a set of rings for people to wander around. These pathways are also great for young kids to pedal around since they are quite flat and hence not intimidating.

Even though Kim Pong Park is a simple park, it still stands out as a nice piece of greenery in the neighbourhood. It not only draws out people from the old Tiong Bahru neighbourhood but also from the towering flats at Kim Tian Place.

Kim Pong Park Nature Playgarden and Swings

Swings at Kim Pong Park

Besides a pavilion that offers shelter, there is little else at Kim Pong Park.

What the park does have is a series of garden swings. These provide a place for park visitors to have a seat and enjoy some leisurely time while admiring the mature trees that have been planted around the park.

There is also a Kim Pong Park Nature Playgarden for younger children to have fun with nature.

Nature playgardens make use of natural materials to encourage open-ended play outdoors amongst kids.

Play at the Kim Pong Park Nature Playgarden

At the Kim Pong Park Nature Playgarden, which can be found close to Kim Tian Place on the southern end of the park, there are two simple structures that kids can play on.

A pile of logs, stacked upright, create a mound for kids to climb up on.

The second structure at the Kim Pong Park Nature Playgarden is a balancing beam made out of logs. Kids can put their balancing skills to the test at this little structure.
