What an eventful June school holidays it has been!

Children’s Season got into full swing, as did the haze season. We have been doing the mozzie wipeout while hailstones rained down on Singapore, and air purifiers became almost as popular as Hello Kitty toys.

Looking back on the last month, we are sure you have accumulated your own set of personal family memories. Perhaps it was a family vacation you took or a visit to the latest attraction the kids have been clamouring to see.

One idea on how you can capture these memories with your children is to create a Memory Picture.

18th century painters, such as Giovanni Pannini, used to paint imaginary views of famous cities. In one painting of Rome, Pannini collects well-known landmarks such as the Pantheon, the Colosseum, Trajan’s Column and the Statue of the Tiber into a single canvas. This would be similar to painting The Esplanade, Singapore Cable Cars, Singapore Changi Airport, Singapore Zoo (Happy 40th birthday!) and Singapore Botanic Gardens all next to each other. It would be a fantastical painting but a wonderful memory piece.

You and your kids can create your own Memory Picture too! Just sit down together and draw out all your favourite memories from the past month. It is a wonderful way to recap what you have done and strengthen your family memories. Hopefully, the picture isn’t too hazy!

We would love to see any of these pictures once you are done with them. Send them in to us and if we love them so much that we post them on our Little Day Out Facebook page, we will send you a FREE Little Day Out T-shirt!

(As a side note, the imaginary picture of Rome by Giovanni Pannini is currently on display at the National Museum of Singapore as part of the Princely Treasures from the House of Liechtenstein exhibition.)

Hope you had a great June!
