The weekly camps are conducted online via Zoom. Each week features a new theme, keeping things fresh and exciting for students. Class sizes are kept small to allow for more individualised attention. Activities include games, group research projects and presentations.

The online camps combine a mix of academic skills, useful in school settings, and softer skills which are essential for success in life. Students will learn to collaborate with others, develop their critical thinking and practise presenting ideas to hone their public speaking skills.

Each online camp is led by internationally qualified and experienced teachers. Parents will also have the opportunity to meet teachers online to discuss their child’s progress.

Online Camps for Primary School Students

Online Camps for Primary School Students

There are four camps tailored for Primary school students over the June school holidays.

Journey to Comprehension: Reading Comprehension Skills will sharpen students’ comprehension skills as they explore a variety of texts. During the online camp, students will work with their classmates as they tackle various texts and learn to understand the motivation of characters through their words and actions. Skills they will gain include note-taking, inference and content analysis.

Want to give your child’s writing skills a boost? Sign him or her up for Time to Write: A Writing Skills Course. Students at the online camp will learn to plan their writing and discover ways to make their stories more interesting and engaging with techniques such as story maps and the “3 plots technique”. The online camps will make use of interesting, age-appropriate topics like animals, fantasy, volcanoes and the environment! P6 students can also join a special exam booster version of the camp to prepare for the upcoming PSLE.

Students at the Speak Out! A Drama and Public Speaking Skills Course will get to develop their confidence and presentation skills. The younger age set, P1 to P4, will get to explore different aspects of drama like plots and characterisations as they work towards a performance. They will also explore how to use their voice to express emotion and personality. P5s and P6s will work on their factual presentation skills while rehearsing for a dialogue presentation. Parents can join in via Zoom to watch the performances on the final day of the camp.

Move into Writing Success: A Writing Skills Course is designed to give your child’s writing a boost for his or her future studies. The online camp dives into both fiction and non-fiction texts including information reports, poetry and narratives, developing each child’s knowledge, confidence and creativity. Examples of skills covered include the “show not tell” technique and using language to create tension.

31 May to 4 June: Journey to Comprehension: Reading Comprehension Skills
7 to 11 June: Time to Write: A Writing Skills Course
14 to 18 June: Speak Out! A Drama and Public Speaking Skills Course

Online Camps for Secondary Students

Online Camps for Secondary Students

Secondary students can choose from two online holiday camps to develop their language skills.

At the Persuade Me: A Debating and Presentation Skills Course, students will learn how to build up and support logical and convincing arguments for scenarios such as speeches, essays and discussions. The course will study linguistic devices and emphasize how to politely agree and disagree, and share opinions in order to win over others to one’s point of view. Students will get to practise their new-found skills in debates and a presentation.

Students can improve their comprehension and writing skills as they investigate different animal species, their migration patterns and how environmental changes impact them at Move into Writing Success: Writing and Comprehension Skills. Students will learn note-taking techniques and take part in guided activities like creating a fact file. They will also undertake a research project and create a presentation for critique by teachers and their peers, developing their confidence as readers and writers.

Schedule
14 to 18 June: Persuade Me: A Debating and Presentation Skills Course
21 to 25 June: Move into Writing Success: Writing and Comprehension Skills
